Jaclyn "Jackie" Jean Prokesh (89) of Denver, CO has passed.
The second child of Gladys Horn (née Prokesh, née Watts) and John Prokesh, Jackie was born at home in Wolbach, NE. During World War II she and her siblings lived in Oregon and Idaho before returning to Nebraska where she graduated from Wolbach High School.
In 1952, Jackie and daughter Pam moved to Denver, CO to live with sister Peggy. Jackie worked for the phone company, first as an operator and later in management. Quite a feat for a single mother at the time. She retired after many decades and traveled the world for as long as her health allowed.
Jackie traveled to many exciting places and sent souvenirs home from all seven continents. She loved to tell stories about a trip down the Amazon River by raft where she traded with Indigenous people, bringing home a quiver of poison arrows and with a necklace decorated with a rat skull. Jackie saw the pyramids, walked the Great Wall of China, met penguins, and left behind an extensive collection of travel photographs.
A fantastic cook, Jackie hosted many cocktail parties and dinners. She enjoyed golf, gambling, and bowling.
Jackie joins sisters Peggy DeLio, Mary Gail Barr and brother Ronnie Prokesh in death. She leaves behind brother David Prokesh, daughter Pam Noonan, and grandchildren Chris and Patricia Sauthoff.
