Jean VanderMeyden Obituary

1930 ~ 2012
"And ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation." Kahlil Gibran
We have been separated from our beautiful and adoring wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend. The mortal bonds that held her in her throws of pain for so long have finally been lifted. We will forever love and miss her, but know she is in a wonderful realm, preparing to someday welcome us home. Jean loved to make all things "bright and beautiful." On January 25, 2012 the world lost a brightly shining light. She lit up her home, yard, and everywhere she went with the beauty in herself and in everything she did and accomplished - she was a perfectionist in all she undertook. She loved gardening and having a gorgeous yard and home, but above all things else, she loved her family.
Betty "Jean", 81, was born March 18, 1930, the second of eight children, to Clarence W. and Margaret E. (Sollis) Newson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from West High School in 1947, met the love of her life while working at the Salt Lake Hardware, and married George M. Vander Meyden on May 21, 1949. They have shared 62 loving years together and were blessed with two wonderful children: Jeanne and Mark. George has been faithfully at her side for these many years of surgeries and illness and has cared for her almost constantly with undying devotion. Jean had such energy and drive to achieve her personal goals, and her accomplishments included executive secretary positions with the State of Utah, the Granite School District, and her favorite - as the secretary to the Director of Nursing for St. Mark's School of Nursing.
Jean is survived by her husband George; daughter Jeanne (Chuck) Borsani; son Mark (Dianna) VanderMeyden; grandchildren Ashley and Nick VanderMeyden, Kate (Tyler) Anderson, Charles and Gina Borsani; great-grandchildren Madison and Jakob and their mother Paula Cushing, and Zoey Anderson; sisters Carol (Ken) Yates, Elaine (Grant) Huston, Shirley (Reed) Wall, and Mary (Dan) Van Wagenen; and brothers Jim (Margie) Newson and Earl (Diane) Newson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Clarence Jr. (Mook), and grandson Tony Cushing.
The family would like to thank Ginger, Coli, and Annie with Affinity Hospice Care for their kind and loving nursing assistance in the past few months; Father Ure at St. Mark's hospital for his faithful presence and comfort to Jean with each surgery and illness; and Dr. Yarrish and all of Jean's many doctors and their staffs for years of kind service.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 E. 7800 S., where friends and family may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Jean to your favorite charity.

Dear George & Family,

I was saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved Jean. I've always admired your love and devotion to each other, especially during these past several years when she has been so ill. Her obituary of a life well lived is beautiful. How fortunate you are to have shared so many years together.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time as you cope with the loss of her earthly companionship. May cherished memories and love and support of family and friends ease the burden of your sorrow and bring you comfort and peace.

With love and sympathy,

Pat Griffiths
