Charles (Charlie) Chesterman

Dorchester, MA

Charles (Charlie) Edwin Chesterman, age 53, died peacefully at home on November 4, 2013 in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Charlie was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 8, 1960 to Ed and Carolyn Chesterman. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1978.

Services were held Saturday, November 9, at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of South Boston. The Reverend Burns Stanfield, a Des Moines native and Scruffy the Cat band member officiated.

Charlie lived in Dorchester, Massachusetts for most of his adult life. His band, Scruffy the Cat, was well known in the Boston area and toured throughout the United States earning the band a following colleges around the country in the eighties and nineties. Charlie's enthusiasm for life continued to be heard as three other bands followed. The true love of his life was his wife Juliann Cydylo, whose loving care helped ease the pain of his long illness.

Charlie was loved and admired by family and friends alike for his lighthearted humor, effortless creativity, love of life and gentle spirit.

Charlie is survived by his wife Juliann, daughter Clementine and son Woolsey. He is also survived by his mother Carolyn Chesterman of Indianola, brothers Dan and Ted Austin and sister Nancy Covington, all of Des Moines.
