Clyde was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Vernon Lindsey and Gretta Leona Swogger Bishop on January 26, 1929. Among the many schools he attended were Garrett Grove Elementary near Ivy, IA, Warren Harding Jr. High and East High School in Des Moines. On November 23, 1946 he married his high school sweet heart Betty L. Habelitz. To this union three children were born, Connie L. Schmett (Kim) of Clive, IA, Cherry Johnston of West Des Moines, IA and Chris Loran (Janet) of Alabama. In 1953 Clyde moved his family from Des Moines to Runnells, Iowa where he purchased a small farm to raise his family. While attending to his family and his farm he also took a job at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company in Des Moines, Ia. He worked his way up from a maintenance man to the Industrial Maintenance Executive of the plant while at the same time maintaining his farm. Clyde was a man's man; loved the outdoors and to hunt and fish. He often said he was never happier than when he was outside on the tractor in the field. He and his wife traveled the western United States every year and would often make a surprise visit to his granddaughter and her family in Florida.

Clyde carved out a path that was his own and on his own terms. A path of character, integrity and dignity. He never held office nor joined fraternities but he was strong and wise. He could fix anything and always available to help out a neighbor. He could raise horses, cattle, crops and raise a barn, but also a very sensitive man who adored his wife and loved his family unconditionally.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his father Vernon, mother, Greta, and Stepmother Gladys. Besides his three children, he is survived by six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Remembering one of the great guys in my life Clyde was an inspiration for me

Not a day goes by that I don't think of my father. He was tough yet gentle, stern but fair, loving and giving; and he could be quite funny and definitely unique. He walks beside me as I make decisions in my life....I strive not to disappoint him and remember the lessons he taught. May his candle glow bright as we continue our journey without him.

Connie, Cherry, Chris and famalies... So sorry to hear about Clyde. I think he and Betty are in heaven and having a great time with my Mom and Dad! I know he thought of my dad as a brother and I think the feeling was mutual. Thinking of you all at this time. Love,

Clyde has always been a man I totally admired, as over the 60 years I've known him, never heard him say anything bad about anyone, and when he spoke, it was worth listening to. A man of great wisdom, and character, who loved his children, and all of God's creation. If this world was full of Clyde Bishop's, it would be a better place.
Maggie and I will miss this great man, as he was loved and special to both of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
