Gerald Donald "Jerry" Grubb, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Church with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

Jerry was born January 27, 1931 in Oskaloosa, IA to John and Irene Grubb. He was a 1949 graduate of Dowling High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Jerry owned and operated a very successful home building business "Jerry's Homes" which he founded in 1957. He was Past President of the Homebuilders Association of Greater Des Moines, a past member of Hyperion Field Club and an active member of Des Moines Golf & Country Club.

He enjoyed traveling the entire country in his motorhome and all those who knew Jerry, knew of his passion for golf. He enjoyed endless rounds with family and friends. His other passion was for riding his beloved Harley's. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was a devoted caretaker for his wife Nancy for over six years before her death in 2014.

He is survived by two sons, Jeff (Kim) Grubb and their children Joe, James and Wyatt, and Ron (Angel) Grubb and their children, Adam (Kristina), Gary (Claudia) and Rick; Kathy Grubb's sons, Nick (Sara) and Mark Liker; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Bennett, Anna and George. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; his parents; daughter, Kathy Grubb; four brothers, Bob, John, Mickey and Jimmy; and two sisters, Rose and Jean.

Saddened to read about the passing of Jerry. Fond memories of when the entire Grubb clan from Des Moines would come down to visit cousins in Oskaloosa at the Eveland farm. Definitely, the highlight of our summers! RIP Jerry.

This man was truly an inspiration for me! No matter if he was wheeling in an oxygen tank behind him or being wheeled out by me he would always make an effort to come visit his wife! He showed true love and dedication still exist no matter what he had to push through! Love you Jerry, fly high! I'm excited for you to see Nancy again.
