Steven Pugh Obituary

Steven Michael Pugh

Des Moines

Steve Pugh passed into eternal life on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at his home, where his family had gathered to say their last goodbyes. At his side were his fiancé, his mom and dad, brothers, sons and daughter.

Steven Michael Pugh was born in Des Moines on August 6, 1969. He attended Oak Park Elementary, Harding Middle School and North High School. Steve was a natural athlete, excelling in football, baseball and wrestling. He was also active in the swing choir and the school theater, most notably in the productions "Dirty Work at the Crossroads", "Matchmaker", and "The Sound of Music". In his athletic and extracurricular endeavors, he made many lifelong friends.

Steve also made friends at work, in various engagements with Drake University, Ryko Equipment, and the City of Des Moines. He was known as a person who was dependable and hardworking, never afraid to help out a coworker, friend or family member.

As part of a longstanding family tradition, Steve held a deep respect for nature and was an active outdoorsman. From hunting to fishing to growing a great garden, Steve was never happier than when he was enjoying outdoor activities. His many hunting and fishing trips solidified bonds with family and friends alike.

Following his uncle Bob Pugh's example, Steve created art in a wide variety of media. He loved to create art and give it away for others to enjoy. The display cases and shelves of many relatives and friends are adorned with Steve's clay figurines, carvings and unique drawings.

Throughout Steve's life, his natural wit and sense of humor made us all laugh, and was always a key ingredient in nearly every role he played.

Steve is survived by his fiancé, DeeDee Weatherly; sons, Joshua, Michael and Austin; and daughter, Kalianna; as well as parents, Sam and Judy Pugh; and brothers, Frank (wife, Theresa) and Jon (wife, Allison). Survivors also include nieces, Kristin Olson (husband, Mark) and RuthAnn Pugh (fiancé, Jimmy Wilkins) and nephews, Sam and Graham Pugh.

Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Per his request, cremation has occurred prior to visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Hospice of Central Iowa.
