Al Lock Obituary

Al Lock
June 17, 1927 - September 8, 2021
Fort Worth, Texas - Al Lock, (Alfred Harben Lock IV), age 94 of Fort Worth passed away on September 8, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Agape Baptist Church, 3900 Southwest Blvd, Fort Worth, TX.
Al was born on June 17, 1927, in Austin, Texas to Alfred Harben Lock III and Annie Crane Lock. Al attended Austin public schools, graduating in January 1945.
Upon graduation, Al enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific. Following discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at Texas A&M. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets and the Ross Volunteer Honor Guard Company. He received a commission from the Air Force and served as a reserve officer for 10 years.
Shortly after graduation, Al was employed by Johns-Manville Corporation, an international manufacturer of building materials. On a weekend visit to Austin, he met Druena Collins, a third grade teacher. They were married in Childress, TX on August 22, 1953. His career with Johns Manville spanned 30 years, during which they lived in Little Rock, Memphis, New Orleans and Fort Worth.
Al soon became passionate about Agriculture and farming. Over the years, Druena and Al acquired farm land in both west Texas and Colorado, raising wheat and cotton in Texas and potatoes and barley in Colorado.
In 1982, Al accepted an early retirement opportunity and joined two friends in a liquidation business which eventually became OFCO, Inc. also known as OFCO Office Furniture. Like his previous career, Al loved the business and looked forward to coming into work on Mondays.
A card carrying Republican for over 50 years, Al was a member of most state and local Republican organizations. He served a six year term on the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. He was an election judge and a Republican Precinct Chairman for Westover Hills for over 25 years.
Al delivered Meals on Wheels in South Fort Worth for 20 years. A lifelong Baptist deacon, he was a past member of the Advisory Council and President's Club at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a trustee at Howard Payne University for over 30 years. He had unlimited enthusiasm for life's journey.
Al is survived by his wife of 68 years, his daughter, Sharon Davis, and her husband, Mark Davis, son Larry Lock and his wife Lisa, and grandsons, Christopher Davis (and wife Naomi), Blake Lock (and wife Paige) and Taylor Lock. Al was a Christian, who cherished his family dearly, and cared deeply for his coworkers and his community.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County, 5740 Airport Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76117-6005 or Cornerstone Assistance Network, 3500 Noble Ave, Fort Worth, TX. 76111.

Al Lock was a Christian giant by all measures, a true corner post in the fence row of life. There are many lesser posts, each with flaws that disqualify for "corner post" status. The latter always hold up far more than their part of the load. He and wife Druena lighted the way unselfishly not only for their family, but for humankind in general. May their kind increase.
