When I heard of Blake's accident, I began to pray. I did not pray for ‘GOD' to heal him, but that if ‘GOD' chose to heal him that Blake would be whole again. Also, if he did not live, for ‘GOD' to give his family strength to endure the pain that I knew would follow.
When James told me that he did not survive, I knew that none of his family would ever be the same.
I had to call my son Frank and tell him. He was devastated, partly because of his love for the ‘little boy Blake', but also, because Katie and James had lost their brother. That is how Frank described the relationship between Blake and James.
Today Frank told me a little happy story that I want to share with Blake's family:
When Blake and James were little boy's about 6 or so, their grandfather Jim Bridges had built a well house to connect the three wells that were on the back of Jim and Helen's property.
When they finished the well house, they painted it and made it look all-pretty. As soon as the painting was completed, Blake and James snuck over to Jim and Helen's house and got some spray paint out of the storage.
They sprayed paint all over the backside on the well house (as high as they could reach).
Well, Jim evidently caught them (or he saw them and did not say anything until they were through).
While it would have been easier for Jim to paint over the damage, Jim chose to teach them a valuable lesson.
Jim gave them little wire brushes and made them scrape every bit of the paint that they had put on the building off…
That was a lesson well learned taught by a grandfather who loved his boys…
