Eric Jones Obituary

Eric Samuel Jones of Georgetown transitioned to his heavenly home Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, following a hard-fought battle with leukemia. Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Klett Center for the Performing Arts at Georgetown High School in Georgetown. Interment: Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown with a rosary at 7 p.m. Friday. In the presence of his mom, Kimberlie Garcia, and his grandfather, Nathan "Papa" Jones, he took his first breath in Fort Worth on Oct. 5, 1993. In everything he did or aspired to do, Eric lived life to the fullest, inspiring those he encountered and always wearing the most beautiful smile. Eric attended school in Keller until 2009 when his family moved to Georgetown. As a student at Georgetown High, Eric excelled not only academically, but also as a member of the varsity football team and the varsity track team, lettering in both sports and winning third place in District UIL in the 200 meter. In his short life, Eric accomplished much. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and while living in North Texas, volunteered as a Boy Scout camp counselor. In 2009, as a member of World Changers, Eric volunteered through Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild houses destroyed by Hurricane Ike in Corpus Christi. It was during this time that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Eric also volunteered as a teen attorney for the Georgetown Teen Court. Eric's first summer job was at Reunion Ranch, but his favorite job will always be the position he held at Mel's Lone Star Lanes, where he was not surprisingly named Employee of the Month in May 2012. Following his 2012 graduation from Georgetown High School, Eric began his first semester at the University of North Texas where he became a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Eric enjoyed all sports, loved his family and friends, and was an inspiration to everyone he met. He was preceded in death by his uncle and idol, Ivan Paul Jones. Survivors: Mourning his passing are his parents, Adam and Kimberlie Garcia of Georgetown; brothers, Ian Auston and Steven Theva, both of Georgetown; girlfriend, Lana Roff of Georgetown; great-grandmothers, Valetta Jackson of Fort Worth and Patricia Jones of Austin; grandparents, Nathan and Jackie Jones of Austin, Leo and Mimi Garcia of Georgetown and Patricia Couzin of Fort Worth; uncles and aunts, Julius and Tracey Jones of Fort Worth, Albert and Mary Garcia of Beeville and Tyrone and Kristina Taylor of San Antonio; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Landon and Eric were so close when they played together in Keller.. Ian tagging behind... Papa taking them to church for juice and cookies.. It is sad for our family to hear. Just such a terrible shock.. God Bless this family and may they find peace knowing he is wrapped in Gods arm and comforted..

I can't help but think of angel that has joined my mother in Heaven. His smile would brighten any room, just knowing him is a Blessing and his never give up attitude will be truly missed. Eric, keep soaring and although we must remain behind we find solace knowing that one day we all shall fly with you both.
Love and miss you,
DeNay, CeAnna and DJ

Words can not even begin to describe the person you were. We were brothers, friends, teammates, co-workers, relay partners and then I even became your coach. There was never a dull moment with you around. Even going through the difficult times of being in the hospital, you continued to laugh and enjoy every second of it. I will never forget the little concert we put on in the hospital, thinking that we were famous. It's those times that will be cherished forever. Although you may not physically be present, your spirit is strong and moving and you will always be here with us in our hearts.

In remembrance of a fine young man with a beautiful smile and personality to go with it. Always going out of his way to say hello, give a hug, tease the little ones. We are all blest with your short time spent here but the journey continues and we look with gratitude that we have an "angel" of your magnitude to pray and watch over all of us left behind. RIP. With blessings and thoughts to your family

Eric..it's hard to say everything in only a few words. I was introduced to this family just days before you were born. You have always been the friendliest kid with a smile that could light the whole room. I will forever be grateful for your influence on my girls...you were wise beyond your years. This has been the hardest thing watching someone enter this world and being there as they were leaving it. You have touched so many peoples lives...and they are better people because of you. Shine down on us now and always. Love you kid, Amy Waldrop PS..keep looking after my girls okay...

Nate and Family... my thoughts and prayers are sincerely with you during this time...

The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil, He enters into peace; They rest in their beds, Each one who walked in his upright way. Isaiah 57:1-2

To Eric,

Thanks for always being an amazing friend. I cannot remember a weekend of high school that we were not hanging out with the gang. Between choir and football I got the chance to really get to know you. You were an amazing boyfriend to my best friend, Lana, and an amazing brother for my husband, Jacob. You not only impacted myself, but many people who I know and love. You are an inspiration to me. You've taught me to remember what life is truly about! My prayer is that you are enjoying yourself in Heaven and know you are missed. I pray for your family as well and I will do my best to take care of them.

With lots of love,

Eric was one of the greatest friends I had. You could always find him with the biggest smile on his face and making a joke out of anything. He was one of those people that as soon as you met him, you felt like you had known him forever. You could go to Eric for anything and he would be there for you, no matter what. He has to be one of the best men I have ever met and I consider myself lucky to have had him as part of my life.

Although I did not know Eric personally I did get to know him through my friend Lana. I learned that Eric has a beautiful smile and a huge heart. He had faith and a way of bringing his friends together during the good and the bad times. I prayed for Eric from the beginning of his journey w/ cancer and I still am. I pray for peace, love and understanding for his friends and family. Eric will forever be an eagle and he will soar above us all. He would be amazed at the amount people he touched even those like me. People he didn't know. I have a friend of mine whose son (4yrs old) who is battling leukemia too. His name is Charlie and he lives in the Dallas area. I'd to think that Charlie now has a special Angel looking after him and giving him life. Eric will have a special place in my heart today and always. God Bless. Kelly Salazar

Kim, Julius, Nate your spouses, the other grandparents, great grandparents, the countless cousins & The entire Jones & Garcia Families;

Greetings in the Blessed & Marvelous name of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We will never understand, or begin to comprehend the thought process of God. That is exactly why the Prophet Isaiah pinned it this way ~

Isaiah 55:8 (NIV) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

John 14:1-4 (MSG) “Don't let this throw you. You trust God, don't you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father's home. If that weren't so, would I have told you that I'm on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I'm on my way to get your room ready, I'll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I'm taking.”

God came and plucked that beautiful kid from amongst you. That kid that every time you saw Nate, you saw Eric. From his roots at Thompson Chapel UMC in Fort Worth, to Georgetown, Texas to his Mansion that was not built by man. Eric accomplished more in twenty years than some do in a lifetime. He made more friends and a lasting impact on all that he encountered.

May you find comfort in the God that has been our help in ages past, may He rest and rule and abide in you today and in the days to come.

God's peace to you all ….

Mary Palmer

I cannot imagine your pain. My daughter just turned 20 today. Eric was a great young man. Know you and your family are in the hearts and prayers of many during this time of sorry. Much love.

This is from Gordon's b-day party, and I remember laughing so hard because he was "praying to the Pool Gods" for help in his terrible game!

My favorite memory of Jonesy is right after Lana introduced me to him for the first time in high school. I can't even remember where I was, (possibly Mel's?) but the venue doesn't really matter anymore. What sticks out to me is how, here I am in public, running into my friend's boyfriend, who only just met me... and not only did he remember my name, but he gave me the biggest hug like we'd known each other for years. It was the sweetest thing ever, and I'll never forget it.
