Haltom City, Texas - Born in Fort Worth Texas in 1946, Jimmy Angle, as he was known, was a graduate of Haltom High School class of 1964.
Jim received his B.A. in political science and history at Texas Tech in 1969. Before earning his M.A in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas, Austin in 1976, he served his country the United States army stationed in Berlin, Germany and Danang, Vietnam.
Jim began his broadcasting career in 1976 as the producer and host of Latin American Review, a weekly half-hour program carried by 155 stations nationwide and distributed by the University of Texas at Austin. In 1983, he became a foreign affairs correspondent for NPR, where he covered the State Department and had primary responsibility for coverage of the Mideast, China, the Soviet Union, and Europe. From 1984 – 1990 he served as NPR's White House correspondent covering domestic and foreign policy as well as election campaigns. During his time at NPR, he spent nine years as editor for the daily news magazine, All Things Considered.
In 1990, Jim became anchor man and senior editor of American Public Radio's Marketplace. While Jim was at the helm, the Marketplace audience doubled.
Jim also worked for CNN and later at ABC News where he contributed to "World News Tonight," "Nightline" and "Good Morning America."
Jim was a Fox News Original when the network launched in 1996. At Fox, he served as Senior White House correspondent where he appeared nightly on "Special Report with Brit Hume." Angle, who was also a regular substitute anchor for "Special Report," covered many of the most important news stories from the early years of Fox News.
Angle earned the title of chief national correspondent in 2011 before retiring from TV news in 2014.
During his storied career, Angle was a recipient of the White House Correspondents' Association Merriman Smith Memorial Award for outstanding presidential coverage for broadcast journalism in 2001 and 2003.
He was also honored with the "Excellence in Financial Journalism Award" for his reporting on economic issues on "Nightline" in 1994 and 1995. He also received the 1988 Public Radio Program Award for his coverage of "The Iran-Contra Affair: A Special Report."
After retiring, Jim, a wine enthusiast, launched a wine reality show with his brother, George, called, "Winemakers Uncorked." It was funny, informative, and charming, just like him.
He is predeceased by wife, Patrice Pisinski Angle.
He is survived by his brother George Angle, sister-in-law (for 50 years) Karen Angle, nieces Sarah Angle, Anglea Stamps (Doug) and nephew James Jerrad Angle (Kristine). Six grand nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Alison Avagliano (Guy) and stepsons, Spencer and Chris Pisinski.
