Sue - i am so sorry for your loss. i sent a Christmas card to the Pantego address and when it was returned, i felt a pit in my stomach that something was very wrong. Joel was such a dear friend to me at work at the Bank and we always shared a laugh and bonded over our time together at the Bank. He was a gentleman among gentelmen and a wonderful man. He will be missed.

Joel had graduated from ASC (now UTA) when I arrived there, but his legend was still there. Later, when I retired and became active in the cadet corps alumni, I witnessed firsthand his leadership skills, & his enthusiasm & love for UTA, its military science program and its cadets. He led by example. His was a life that will be remembered and honored.

I loved Joel Ward. He was such a fine gentleman. I have spent hours in their home and I never went inside of his house that Joel didn't STAND UP TO GREET ME. He was truly a gentleman. I loved him, his wife Sue, and both of his sons and those grandchildren. You can't find better friends than the Ward family.

Of course we send our love and sympathy to each one of them. I know in my heart that Joel is well now and busy playing Wheel of Fortune in Heaven right this minute!

His caretaker, Sue, is my dearest and closet friend, and there was not a day that passed that she did not give her all to his care. She was amazing and the best part is that Joel knew she was giving her all 100 percent of the time.

Blessings,

Diane and Jim Roberts

I met Joel in the fall of 1957 at ASC...as I tried out for the Sam Houston Rifles. During our time in ROTC I grew to admire Joel, and always have. He was in my words "a good guy." My feelings and prayers are with Sue and his family during this time and sorry I live so far away and unable to attend this Saturday's service. He was a man to be admired.
