John Mergenthaler Obituary

REDWOOD CITY, CA - John L. Mergenthaler, 58, passed away Dec. 31, 2008 at Stanford University Hospital after an 18 month battle with cancer.
He was born at home on March 23, 1950 to John C. and Lana (Clawson) Mergenthaler, both of whom are deceased. He married Paulette Vashio on Aug. 9, 1981 and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Joncarmen Mergenthaler, at home; daughter, Alicia Mergenthaler, at home; and two sisters, Marlene (Kevin) Wood, Woodburn, Ind., and Debra (Kevin) Coleman, Fostoria.
John was a 1968 graduate of Lakota High School. He received his bachelor and masters degrees at Bowling Green State University. He received his Ph.D. in atmospheric science at the University of Arizona. He was an assistant professor at the University of Florida for two years. He was an atmospheric scientist for Lock-heed-Martin Advanced Technology Center, Palo Alto, CA for 25 years.
John enjoyed music, bicycling, snow skiing, traveling with his family and spending time with numerous friends. John had a great sense of humor and kind heart. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
A memorial service is at 1pm January 24, 2009 at the Risingsun Park Community Center, Risingsun, followed by a luncheon.
Memorials may be made in John's honor to his children's education fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
