December 10, 1945 - August 28, 2023

Ft. Worth, Texas - Memorial services for Joy Shorkey will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Following the service, her cremains will be interred at Salem Cemetery near Freestone.

Joy Shorkey was a pioneer. She was one of the first females to enlist in the Navy in 1965, where she met her husband Allen. Joy was a philanthropist that supported local charities and was a lover of animals. She was also a fan of science fiction and yoga. Mrs. Shorkey held two Bachelor's degrees, one from LSU and another from UT Arlington. She loved to travel to California, New Mexico and Louisiana.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Wells, and son-in-law, Cory Wells. Mrs. Shorkey is also survived by her daughter, Gina Shorkey and son-in-law, Leelyn Descoteaux
