Marilyn Moody Obituary

Marilyn Kay Moody MD
July 29, 1946 - January 20, 2023
Arlington, Texas - Marilyn Kay Moody, MD of Arlington, Texas was called to her Heavenly home on January 20, 2023 at the age of 76, after an 18-month battle with lymphoma.
Marilyn served many years on the clinical faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine in Dallas. Her primary clinical practice was at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children as a pediatric radiologist. She was also one of the contributing authors of Pediatric Orthopaedics. For many years, Marilyn gave board exam reviews to resident physicians at UT Southwestern, who rated her the best professor on multiple occasions. She was also known for showing extreme kindness and compassion to her pediatric patients when performing radiological procedures.
Growing up, Marilyn lived in many locations as an Army brat, including two different tours in southern Germany. She loved the mountains and beauty of Bavaria and recalled her walks to school as being in a winter wonderland. She also had an incredible memory, recalling minute details from her past. At two years of age, she was able to translate to and from German and English for her parents and German citizens.
Marilyn was an accomplished artist and was asked to display her paintings in the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth. An extremely hard worker, Marilyn kept a spotless home and was a perfectionist in everything she did. She had a keen wit, and loved to tease at times, as well as assign funny nicknames. She always put others' needs ahead of her own. After her own mother was in a severe automobile accident, Marilyn cared for her for many years, even under trying circumstances. She was truly a great beauty with a caring heart.
Following her retirement, Marilyn converted to the Catholic faith, after previously teaching children's Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church in Arlington. Marilyn recalled people of all religious faiths worshiping together at the Army bases of her childhood. She believed that the title of the church was not as important as the true love of God. She often noted that we are simple, small specks in a vast universe, and realized that life on this Earth is, in the broad span of time, very short.
Marilyn also firmly believed that one should not take oneself too seriously. She would ask, "How many people think of this or that famous person every day?" And then respond, "Not many." Her point was that fame is very fleeting. With great compassion, she always looked out for the underprivileged in our society. She was truly a kind and wonderful person.
Marilyn will be greatly missed by her survivors, including her husband Stephen W Barksdale MD of Arlington Texas, daughter Elizabeth Moody Barksdale of Irving, Texas (Kevin Beane), daughter Juliet Moody Barksdale of Austin, Texas (Jeremy Brautigam), brother Douglas Moody of Rancho Palos, California (Jane Lin), sister Beth Moody Davis of Houston, Texas (Jeff Davis), aunt Georgia Geouge of Burnsville, North Carolina, aunt Ruby Huskins Hall of Burnsville, North Carolina, niece Melissa Carson of Houston, Texas, nephew Neill Carson of Pearland, Texas (Kristina Carson), niece Laura Yeoh, MD, PhD of Boston, Massachusetts (Seng Keat Yeoh), niece Sarah Moody of Austin, Texas, niece Anne Moody of New York City, and grandniece Emma Sophia Carson of Pearland, Texas.
There will be a private mass for family members in the future.

I also had the privilege of working with Dr .Moody for many years and remember that she would always encourage the children to do their homework and read alot and tell them that education was very important. We both had girls and would speak of our daughters. She was always kind and gentle and it was very easy to work with her.I thank the Lord for allowing me this friendship. The world was a better place because she was here. Thank you Marilyn for all the sweet memories. See ya later,,,,,love carolyn.

I had the good fortune of working with and getting to know Marilyn at Scottish Rite for nearly a decade. She was my friend and colleague, and I am richer for the experience. Her photo at the end of her obituary captures her smile perfectly. A nice image to remember her by. My heart goes out to her family. I will miss her. Rest in peace, Marilyn.

Prayers for family and friends. I worked with Dr. Moody at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. She treated everyone with respect. She never meet a stranger and with the children she loved them all. They don´t make doctors like her anymore. Rest In Peace Dr. Moody

I knew Marilyn in the 1980´s when I was in medical training and she made a profound impression on me. Kind, brilliant yet incredibly humble she was a true treasure to know. Recently, a young college graduate I know asked me if I ever knew a true Renaissance person and Marilyn was one of the first people who came to mind. I then today looked to see if she was still working and found this obituary. God speed. You will be remembered by many, a great soul

Marilyn was my friend for 62 years. She was truly one of the kindest most caring persons I have ever known. Her quick whit and humor was enjoyed by all who knew her.
She was very pragmatic about the unique brain cancer that she fought.
