Melanie Mertz Obituary

Melanie Ann Diggs Mertz ALEDO--Melanie Ann Diggs Mertz, 65, peacefully reunited with her parents in heaven on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 3 p.m. Friday at University Christian Church, with a reception to follow for family and friends. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood. MEMORIALS: May be made to the American Cancer Society and the Haley Memorial Cemetery, Irving, Texas. Melanie Ann Diggs Mertz was born Oct. 27, 1952, to Melvin M. and Virginia Haley Diggs in Fort Worth. Ann graduated from Paschal High School in 1970 and TCU in 1974. She comes from a big family of TCU alumni, including both of her parents, sister and three children. Ann worked at TCU for many years and loved her alma mater and all her co-workers. In 1990, Ann reconnected with and began dating her husband of 27 years, Paul, while planning their 20th high school reunion. Ann and Paul enjoyed cooking for one another, and Ann especially loved sewing, house projects, tending to her gardens and spoiling her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Doug Sampson. SURVIVORS: Husband, Paul Mertz of Aledo; sons, George "Trey" Kostohryz III and Kelli Bryce Kostohryz and wife, Morgan, both of Fort Worth; daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Haley Mertz of Grapevine; grandchildren, Hudson and Margot Kostohryz of Fort Worth; sisters, Susan White and husband, Ralph, of Oxford, Miss., and Nancy Diggs of Fort Worth; along with nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special gratitude to Dr. Mary Milam; hospice care; and all the friends and family who supported Ann and prayed for her well-being.

Ann and her family lived across the street from my family growing up. There were two more neighbors with girls. That would make 10 girls. One day the Diggs girls were in trouble for something. Mom Diggs told them that their daddy was coming home and they were getting a spanking. Ann went inside and put on every pair of underwear she had to await her spanking. I am very sorry we lost track of one another after high school. It sounds like she was a wonderful person.

I'm praying for her family to have peace in her passing away.

I loved it when the Diggs girls would run down the hill to my house on Inwood Road. We had good fun and great memories.
