Robert Rettew Obituary

Forever young at 63.

Robert "Bob" Rettew, Jr. was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Patricia Rettew. He graduated from Manheim Township in 1981, where he spent much of his time on the wrestling mat. Shortly after graduation, Bob joined the United States Air Force, eager to see the world- though fate had other plans and stationed him in Texas, the place he would come to call home.

Bob became a proud father to his sons, Robert (Bobby) Rettew, III (born 1983) and Tommy Rettew (born 1984). In 1992, he married his soulmate, Lisa and together they built a beautiful blended family with children, Meshia and Taylor.

Bob worked for Bass Enterprises for 38 years before retiring in 2024. He spent his retirement doing what he loved most- traveling with Lisa and going on family adventures with his kids and grandkids, cheering on his grandchildren at every event possible, and finally seeing the parts of the world he hoped to visit during his military service.

A lifelong Philadelphia Eagle fan, Bob never missed a chance to rib his Cowboys- loving son- in- law, Derek, especially when the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl LVII (52) in 2023 and he got to witness that in person. He cheered "Fly, Eagles Fly" through every season- and now, this Eagle has flown home.

His quick wit, loyal heart and infectious humor made him loved by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his wife of over 33 years, Lisa; his children Bobby Rettew (Emily), Tommy Rettew (Pamela), Meshia Neely (Derek), Taylor Wright (Christopher); along with beloved grandchildren Parker and Sawyer Neely, Charlee and Josephine Rettew, Baylee and Dean Rettew. He is also survived by his sister, Robin Wentzel, brothers Rodney Rettew and Jon Shank, three nephews, one great niece and one great nephew along with extended family and cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia (and Phil Shank).

Bob will be remembered for his devotion to his family and the way he made every gathering brighter. His spirit will live on in the stands, stories, traditions and love he leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025. 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3344 White Settlement Rd. Ft. Worth, TX 76107.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to: The Azle ISD Athletics Department, the Key School and Training Center for Dyslexia Therapy, or the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health, causes close to Bob's heart.

Our deepest heart felt condolences to the whole family. It was always so nice and such a joy to see and talk with Bob and Lisa when they brought their dogs for us to watch while they vacationed. He sure did love his dogs and always had a smile on his face . He will truly be missed. Sending prayers & love to the whole family and also big hugs especially to Lisa in this difficult time.

There are no words to erase the pain you are feeling but sending much love and prayers to you, Lisa and to the family. Life is such a fragile thing and our path is on God´s timing and is always perfect even when we cannot understand. Lean on the Lord and hold tight to your memories until you are joined again.

My deepest sympathies for the family. We lived in the same neighborhood way back in the70's. A lot of great families lived on that block. We looked out for each other. I also babysat for the Rettews. Prayers and Blessings to all!
