Allyson Kallenberg Obituary

Kallenberg Allyson Kallenberg, age 47, passed away on July 11, 2014. Preceded in death by grandparents Paula and Alex Kallenberg and Genevieve and Harry Miller. Survived by parents, Les and Harriet Kallenberg; sisters, Lisa (Howard) Spector and Carol (Scott) Cohen; significant other, Deborah McDonald and son, Dominic; uncles, Rich (Lois) Kallenberg, Melvyn Miller, aunt Shirley Bogardus; cousins, nieces and nephews; dearest friend, Kelly Story among many friends. Allyson deeply loved her family, Judaism and Israel. She was a supportive and loyal friend, loved music and was an avid tennis player. Her personality was larger than life and lived with no regrets. Always compassionate to those without a voice, she was involved with the Big Brothers & Big Sisters program and championed "Stop the Suffering" for abandoned animals. Knowledge and education were of great importance to Allyson. She was a 1984 graduate of Walnut Ridge, attended Arizona State University and currently Harvard on line. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Sunday, July 13 at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 5419 E. Broad St. Rabbi Sharon Mars and Cantor Bat-Ami Moses officiating. Shiva will be observed at the Kallenberg family home Sunday 5-8 p.m. and Monday from 6-8 p.m. Because Allyson advocated for those without a voice, in lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to LifeTown Chabad Columbus (a program that teaches life skills to special needs children) 6220 E. Dublin Granville Rd., New Albany 43054, (614) 939-0765. Online guestbook at www.epsteinmemorial.com

Rosemary and family. We are shocked to learn of the passing of my dear friend Allyson almost a decade later. My feepest sympathy go to the family of Allyson, and my God continue to keep you strong. I first met Allyson when we moved to Columbus in mid nineties with my family from Kenya. She was a big help to my family. She helped me and my family navigate life in Columbus as a foreigner. Her loss is a big blow to my family. She will forever be missed. May her soul rest in peace. God bless Rosemary wademi

Lisa and family - sorry to hear about this so late, but our thoughts and wishes on your tragic loss. It's not fair when those so young are taken so early. My memories of Allyson date back to when I first met her at Michael Kaufman's barmitzvah, through her graduation from Walnut Ridge HS, and she would take the phone into the other room so her sister Lisa wouldn't hear her conversations. Long ago, but always wonderful, and that's how I remember her.

Harriet, Les, Lisa and Carol... it is a small yet very sad world. Through my wife's cousin, Julie Kessel, I learned of Allyson's death. Small because who knew Allyson and Julie were friends, but also sad because she was truly to young and vibrant of a person to have succumbed so early.

I am so sorry to hear about the death of your daughter, sister and dear friend who I spent five glorious years with while I was attending Ohio State University. You were my family away from home and I often think of the great times Allyson and I had with all of you.

Allyson was a wonderful person whom I was fortunate to have met thanks to the Ehrlich family of Chicago. I felt Allyson was not only a special friend but also just like a sister. We spent many special moments together and I really loved being a part of your family. I am so sorry that 17 years or so have gone by without seeing Allyson and you.

Again, my deepest sympathy to you and your family during this sorrowful time. Allyson and your family are and will always be a special memory.

Sadly yours,
Scott Aronoff
