John J. Kelser

July 16, 1943 - January 25, 2026

BETTENDORF, IOWA - John J. Kelser, 82, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed Sunday, January 25, 2026, surrounded by his family at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Ill., under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family for a college fund to be established for John's grandkids.

John Joseph Kelser was born on July 16, 1943 in Shamokin, Pa., the son of Violet (James) Rhoades. In second grade, he moved to the Quad Cities to live with his aunt, where he would establish his forever home. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1961. John married Mary Beth Campbell on May 22, 1976, in Davenport, Iowa, and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.

He was a man of many talents and held numerous jobs throughout his life. His favorite role was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved watching football, and enjoying horse races; often placing an occasional bet or two.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Beth Kelser; children, Scott Kelser and Jennifer (Steven) Johnston; grandchildren, Kenzie Johnston, Ethan Johnston, Charlie Kelser, and Jonny Kelser; cousin, Jack James; and sister-in-law, Laura Campbell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Rhoades; and his aunt, Sarah Olley.

Condolences may be shared at CremationQC.com.
