To Arnold's Family;
My condolences and deepest sympathy in your loss. I had not seen Arnold in almost 60 years but he was a special part of my life. In July 1947, I was a sophmore in high school and every day would ride my bicycle to Price Field where Arnold worked as a mechanic. I was very interested in aircraft and wanted to learn more. After several days of watching, Arnold asked me if I would like to go for a ride. He was taking a work break to practice aerobatic maneuvers that he had to excell at to get his Commercial Pilots license. I of course accepted his offer and had my first but far from last flight. I quickly became a part of the operations at that airport thanks in part due to Arnold recognizing my keen interest in all things relating to the business. I was hired initially to help with fueling, aircraft parking and in slow times on the flight line, to be tutored in the maintenance of the aircraft by Arnold and Chuck Britt the other mechanic. With their encouragement and the two top flight instructors on the staff, I became a pilot, soloing at the minimum age of 15 eventually getting further pilot ratings at the minimum age. I went on to college and graduated from engineering school and a life in the aircraft design and manufacturing business. I owe it all to the interest that Arnold took in me and eventually in the Flight Instructors and airport operators. In the years following my military service I unsuccessfully tried to locate Arnold to make him aware of what his offer of a flight had done for my life which eventually led me to an engineering job at North American Aviation. Little did I know that he was at the same company and our paths did not cross. The reason for this long note is since I cannot tell him, then to make you aware what his kind gesture and interest did for the life of that youngster some 63 years ago. I will never forget the gentle person that he was or his kind gesture.

Please know, that although far away I know your loss is great, your family is so very fortunate to have had him in your lives for so long, I believe it was because of the loving care his family provided him with in his last years, his grandson Bryan took such special care of him, you don`t meet people like him in this day and age, he would take time out of his day to sit with him and take care of all his needs, my condolences to all .
