Audrey Hrabcak Obituary

Hrabcak Audrey Elaine Hrabcak. A light has extinguished on this earth and has traveled on to do great works. Audrey Elaine Hrabcak, 77, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and left this life on December 11, 2014, surrounded by the presence of her family. The daughter of deceased Anna Mae and Roy Laughery of Slovakian and Irish descent, Audrey was a wife, mother, daughter and friend of complete grace. She was a quiet soul who in many ways preferred to be home reading a good book, walking on the beach, or spending time with her husband. Audrey loved the ocean and watching ocean birds, such as egrets and pelicans. She enjoyed sitting in thought by the ocean, with appreciation for the beauty of the beach and water. Audrey was a devoted wife to her husband, John, of 57 years, and he was her great love. She adored her children and loved nothing more than being with them. She is survived by her daughter, Donna; sons, Greg, Scott, Mark and Mike; daughters-in-law, Donna, Lisa, Mallory and Heidi; and her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Laine, Jared, Rachel, Adam, Christopher, Katelyn, and Alexis. She is also survived by her brother, Carl Laughery, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Audrey was beloved by The LivMoor East End and The Kroger Company community friends that she and her husband knew and loved for more than 50 years. The names of all these dear friends are too numerous to cite, yet we thank you for your love, support, and prayers. Audrey will be sadly missed by the residents and staff of the Villages of Westerville, her Siesta Breakers community in Siesta Key, Florida, and Maple Creek community in Westerville, Ohio. Audrey was a passionate reader, and one of the greatest pleasures in life were her books. She read avidly and taught her children that books were "best friends." Childhood memories included her five children riding bikes with Audrey to the library to find new books to read. At a young age, Audrey would visit the Duquesne Library of Pittsburgh to check out books, where she read many classics and contemporary books by the time she graduated from high school. She graduated Salutatorian of her Class in 1957 and was one of the first women to speak from the pulpit at Christ the King Church in Columbus, Ohio. She participated in and volunteered for so many of her children's life events, which included: LivMoor swim team meets and fundraisers, PTA throughout all of her children's school years, Girl Scouts, Indian Guides, numerous wrestling matches, swim meets, golf matches, basketball games, football games and more. She did all this with a loving open heart. John and Audrey's house was the gathering house the neighborhood kids all enjoyed, usually while eating her baked delights. She raised her children to be respectful, loving and to pursue their dreams. All five of her children have fulfilled dreams based upon their mother's unwavering love and support. Her kindness was extraordinary and unconditional. Her peaceful moments were sitting by the ocean, reading with a good cup of coffee. Audrey was an amazing and impeccable seamstress who had very refined and sophisticated taste. She will be remembered for her work at Grant Otterbein Emergency Room and Concord Counseling agency in Westerville, where she was deeply respected. Through all of her suffering, she was extremely dignified, graceful and never complained. She never wanted to be a burden to anyone. She was a woman of complete grace to the very end. While she will be very sadly missed every day by her family, we are grateful she is in peace. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Westerville Public Library in memory of Audrey. She loved nothing more than going to the library and picking out a stack of books to read. She always said she was "not ready for the great Library in Paradise," but the time has now come that she is. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., where friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A celebration of life for remembrance, food, and sharing will be held at J. Liu Restaurant in Worthington, directly after the service. We thank all of you in so many communities for your prayers. A great light has extinguished, yet a more beautiful one exists in the heavens, thanks to the life of Audrey Elaine Hrabcak. To the Hrabcak family:
When you lose your Mom, it's a sad day. She was a mom in every sense of the word to all of you. She gave so much of herself and has left a legacy of goodwill to family and friends. My prayers are with you that God would give you peace knowing you'll see her again.
