Byron Blake Obituary

Blake Byron Blake, M.D., age 89, of Grove City, Ohio, passed away March 6, 2016 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He was a 1944 graduate of Grove City High School. After serving in the Navy aboard the USS Lake Champlain from 1944-1946 in WW II, he graduated from The Ohio State University in 1950 and then graduated in 1955 from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Blake was a practicing physician in Grove City for 55 years, and in 1974 was cofounder of Talbot Hall Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his son Jonathan Blake in 1981. Dr. Blake is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley (Winkle) Blake; son, Michael Blake, M.D.; daughter, Kimberly (Tommy) Taneff; grandsons, 2LT Blake Taneff, US Army and PFC Evan Taneff, US Marine Corps; granddaughter, Lily Xinyan Taneff. Friends may visit Friday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at THE SPENCE-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 2697 Columbus St., Grove City, Ohio. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus Street, Grove City, Ohio with Pastor Donald Allman officiating. Interment will follow at Grove City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice c/o Mount Carmel Foundation, 6150 East Broad St., Columbus, Oh 43213-9924 in his memory. We're sorry for your loss of Dr. Blake...I just found out today of his passing and knew Dr Blake when I lived in Grive City in 2002....me and my brother Darrell who passed a few years ago were actually patients of Dr Blake and haven't found a better doctor as he anytime since...we send our condolences and prayers to all his family...

I had the privlege of being a friend and patient of Dr. Blake for more than 40 years. I am deeply saddened to learn only today of his passing. He is the finest man I have ever encountered in my life. I am not ashamed to tell you, I wept bitterly. He comforted and consoled me through the death of my young daughter as well as guided me out of the depths of alcoholism. He was not only a fine doctor, he was a healer of body and soul. My life is so much richer having known him. My sorrow is great, but so also is my joy to know for a certainty, he lives again through his faith and understanding in the LORD Jesus Christ. I look forward to meeting him again in the heavenly places. I know he has many treasures stored in heaven and will surely be a leader in the kingdom of GOD.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr Blake for 9 years and I can honestly say he is the kindest most gentel soul I have ever encountered. Dr. Blake was my family doctor from the time that I first moved to Grove City as a child. His son, Mike, was a good friend of mine and we played football together all through high school. Dr. Blake was a well known and love member of the G.C. community and will be missed. My prayers are with his family.
