Charles Goodin Obituary

GOODIN Charles Robert Goodin, Sr., died March 6, 2010 at Monterey Care Center. Born July 5, 1924 to Audrey Parlett and Edwin Goodin, he is predeceased by his parents and his wife of over 63 years, Margaret E. (Bowen) Goodin and one great-grandchild Alishia Ewing. He is survived by daughters, Ginger (Ken) Tinkler of Orient, OH, Bobbie (Jim) Price of Arlington, TX, Betty "BJ" Jo Reed of Columbus, OH, Patricia Grove of Sugar Creek, OH and Carol (Ed) Merritt of Grove City, OH; son, Charles Robert 'Chuck' (Jane) Goodin, Jr. of Chillicothe, OH; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren (three due in March and April) and one great-great-grandchild. His only brother Harold (Jean) Goodin resides in Palmdale, CA; nephew, Richard Goodin. Charles served in World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in the China-Burma-India Arena. He was a member of OSS 5322nd HQ & HQ Co. Charles worked at Ohio Steak and Barbeque in Columbus, OH and retired from Hobart in Troy, OH. He was a member and served as an Elder in the Community of Christ Church, Reynoldsburg, OH. Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the SHAW-DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, 34 West Second Avenue, Columbus, OH 43201. Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church, 1255 Stringtown Road, Grove City, OH. There will be a private family inurnment. The family wishes to express our gratitude to Monterey Care Center staff and Odyssey Health Care (Hospice) for their ministry of care to our father and mother. In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions be made in his honor to Odyssey Health Care, 540 Office Center Place, Suite 100, Gahanna, OH 43230-5317; Camp Bountiful, c/o 2862 Johnstown Road, Suite 107, Columbus, OH 43219; or to the Community of Christ, 840 Rosehill Road, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.

Oh, I just found out about Charles’s passing. I fill as though I have lost my Father. He was a very good and gentle man. I grow up with him. At church and at Camp Bountiful he made you feel as though nothing could go wrong and all was right with the world. My heart goes out for Margaret, Chuck, Betty and Bobby Jo. and the rest of the Goodin clan. I loved Him and he will be sorely missed. God bless all.

My prayers are with the entire Goodin family. I thank the entire family for the blessing they were/are in my life.
I have fond memories of crowding into the family station wagon to go to church.

Ken and I have been missing Margaret and Bob for a long time. We had such good times with them, eating together after church and driving them home afterwards. We see reminders of Bob every time we look around the church in Reynoldsburg at the many items he made of wood. It was always a pleasure to visit with them. And we always enjoyed and appreciated the quality of Bob's priesthood memory. I know all of you in the family also have many wonderful memories to sustain you in your loss.
