Charles Edward Stanley "Chuck" Smith, Delaware, Ohio, aged 83, died peacefully but unexpectedly Thursday, September 27, 2018. He was born in Watertown, South Dakota to Ruth Savidge Smith and Charles Stanley Smith. His family moved to Gary, Indiana when Chuck was a boy where he graduated from Merrillville High School. He married his beloved high school sweetheart, Kathleen Hunter. Together they moved to West Lafayette, Indiana where Chuck received a degree from Purdue University. They raised their family in Delaware, Ohio where Chuck ran a real estate and construction company. Chuck had many great loves in his life; including his devoted wife, Kathleen, family, golf and singing barbershop both in Marion, Ohio with The Marionaires Barbershop Harmony Chorus and in Naples, Florida. He was active in the many charities and outreach programs at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Naples, Florida, especially God's Gardeners. His family celebrates the many moments and memories created by and shared with him, and were very proud of his numerous golf accomplishments as well as his love and performance of barbershop. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, daughter Pamela and granddaughter Nicole. Left to celebrate and cherish his wonderful smile and memory are his wife, Kathleen; son-in-law Bryan Bodager, children Chuck Smith Jr. (Donna Leaver), Lori Vargo, Julie (Dan) Brinkman, Jennifer (Mark) Jackson and David Smith; sisters Ginny (Charlie) Dinsmoor and Susie Smith; his beloved grandchildren Eric, Andrew, Stephanie, Christopher, Jonathan, Alex, Abby, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Zachary and Nathan; great grandchildren Hannah, Michael and Charlee; numerous extended family in Indiana and Florida; and those with whom he considered himself fortunate to be friends, especially his golf family at York Golf Club and throughout the United States. A service and celebration of his life will take place Saturday, September 29, 2018, 1:00 pm, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Delaware, Ohio. To honor his wishes, there will be no calling hours.
