Concetta Green Obituary

GREEN, O.P. Sr. Concetta Green, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Somerset, OH, on June 20, 1914, to George A. and Theresa (Boley) Green. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1933 and made her Profession of Vows in 1936. Sr. Concetta earned a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University). In the Columbus Diocese, she ministered at St. Francis, Newark (1942-47), Holy Trinity, Somerset (1949-53), St. Mary GS, Lancaster (1953-55), Rosecrans High, Zanesville, (1955-59), Watterson High School (1959-60), St. Mary High/Fisher Catholic, Lancaster (1960-73), and served as CCD Coordinator at St. Thomas Parish, Zanesville (1974-75). Sister served the Residents of Mohun as Activity Director (74-79) and as Gift Shop Manager (80-86). She came to Mohun Health Care Center in 1986. Sister also taught arts and crafts to senior citizens at Nazareth Towers and at Mohun and was well known for her artistic talent and received numerous awards for her ceramics, drawings and other creative projects. In 1984, she won first prize in the statewide Senior Citizen Poster Contest for the Ohio Podiatry Association and received honorable mention in the AOPHA art contest as late as 2007. Sister was preceded in death by brothers Leo Thomas Green and George Adrian Green and sisters Helen O'Brien/Hefner, Pauline Green, Mary Green Wilson and Grace Wilson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and friends. The viewing will be in the Motherhouse on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 3-4:30 p.m. A Vigil Service of Remembrance will take place from 4:30-5:30 p.m. that day with wake continuing until 6:30 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery by EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME.
