Cynthia Bowen Obituary

Bowen, Cynthia Sue
1933 - 2018
Cynthia Sue Bowen, died on October 1, 2018 at age 84 in Columbus, Ohio with her three daughters by her side. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Bowen Klek (Andy) of Rocky River, OH, Lauren Lee Bowen (Kevin Snape) of Huntingdon, PA, and Linda Lee Paluch (Frank) of Dublin, OH; and by eight grandchildren, Maria and Nikolas Klek, Emma, Clare, and Benjamin Snape, and Jaclyn, Trevor, and Cole Paluch. Her husband of 45 years, Robert Wesley Bowen, preceded her in death in 2000 as did her son Kevin Russell Bowen who died at age 23 in 1981. Her brother, Irving Richard Linet, died in 2010. She was born in Logan County, Ohio on December 2, 1933 to H.G. "Pat" and Hattie Linet. Her mother died in 1940 and Sue (as she was known) made her home with her maternal grandparents from the age of 7 to 14. It was her grandmother who started her on a life- long faith journey with membership in the United Methodist Church. She was a member of Linworth United Methodist Church at the time of her death. She was fortunate to have the presence of a stepmother, Margaret Linet and her twin sister Marjorie Kreinbring, in her life from 1945-2000. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1956 and earned a Master's Degree in Education from Marshall University. She was an educator. In that capacity, her career included parenting, teaching kindergarten and first grade, and serving as a central office administrator. Her roles included Supervisor of Instructional Television and Director of Curriculum and Professional Development in Cabell County, WV as well as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instructional Development in Woodford County, KY. After her retirement, she stayed involved in the International Alliance for Invitational Education serving as Executive Director, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Coordinator of Hong Kong Educators and Student Exchanges, a member of the Advisory Council, and as Secretary of the IAIE Membership Committee. She loved flowers and delighted in planting a new garden every year. She was forever industrious and had new craft projects almost every year. She enjoyed traveling with Ireland being her favorite destination. She was devoted to her family and proud of their various contributions to the world we live in. In addition to her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, she enjoyed a special bond with her two sisters-in-law, Frances Bowen and Carol Haney. She was a beloved friend to many from high school, college, church, and work. She loved animals with a special affection for cats. She believed in the power of service, the goodness of people, and that we all have untapped potential. She volunteered for numerous causes brining vision, energy, attention to detail, and dedication to everything she did. She always finished what she started. A memorial service will be held at Linworth United Methodist Church, 7070 Bent Tree Boulevard, Columbus, OH 43235 at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sue's life. The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church and there will be a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Kevin Russell Bowen Memorial Scholarship, Office of Scholarships and Donor Relations, Marshall University, 519 John Marshall Drive, Huntington, WV, 25703 or the Ohio S.P.C.A, at www.ohiospca.org. The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at Kobacker House for their care and compassion. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to share memories and condolences.
