Daniel P. Emerick

Emerick Daniel P. Emerick, January 2, 1959 - April 21, 2016. Graduate, Watterson High School "77" "To be one's self, and unafraid whether right or wrong, is more admirable than the easy cowardice of surrender to conformity." (Irving Wallace) As a young man, Dan sold his beloved '65 red Corvette to start his painting company. He evolved into a true craftsman and artist with a loyal clientele. By his own design and manufacture, he converted his home to run on biodynamic fuels and solar, and his Mercedes to run on the used oil from his favorite restaurant. He'll be remembered as an entrepreneur, inventor, salvage master, re-purposer, and valued advisor on many topics: technical, practical and natural. Dan was an adventurer, having traveled in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. He served as crew and then First Mate on the "Key Largo" on many excursions in the Caribbean, Atlantic seaboard, and Alaska. His interest in car racing, skiing and fly fishing spurred regular trips in the US and Canada. He volunteered on several occasions with Project Healing Waters, which makes fly fishing adventure accessible to wounded veterans. A lifelong resident of Southern Clintonville, Dan was active in community garden and Block Watch programs, ever willing to lend a hand to his many Glenmawr neighbors. As a friend, he was a cantankerous conversationalist, laced with levity and always focused. He brought clarity to issues, simple and complex. A consummate friend, he was always just a phone call away. As the youngest of child of the large Emerick family, Dan showed great compassion and kindness to his parents and siblings. As a father, he enjoyed attending and encouraging son Corbin's many sporting events. He was rock-solid and honest. And dearly loved. He will be missed by all. Preceded in death by father Gerald, mother Marjorie, and sister Jane. Survived by son, Corbin and Corbin's Mom, Shelley; and siblings, Suzan, Jerry, John, David, Polly and Tina.
