I met Deontae at the skating rink when I was about 15 yrs old
and I remember what a hard working, independent, sophisticated,
young man he was. He was only 16, and I remember him expressing to me that he sincerely wanted to be a christian and live the christian
life. I looked up to him for that, and he has encouraged me in many
ways. It may be hard to understand why the lord chose Deontae while he
was so young but there is a greater reason. For those who love
him,God works in all things for the good; even when it seems unfair. It may be in this life that we find out that reason, and it may not. We must have faith in God and continue to trust Him. Grace and peace be with you.

I commend you, my dear Deontae Nelson_briggs to almighty God, and entrust you to your Creator. May you rest in the arms of the Lord who formed you from the dust of the earth. May holy Mary, the angels and all the saints welcome you now that you have gone forth from this life. May Christ, who was crucified for you, bring you freedom and peace. May Christ who died for you admit you into his garden of paradise. May Christ, the true Shepherd, embrace you as one of his flock. May he forgive all your sins, and set you among those he has chosen. May you see your Redeemer face to face, and enjoy the vision of God forever.

To all of Deontae's family and close friends:
You are all in my prayers, as is Deontae. Please remember that he's in a much better place now and he's watching over all of you. I know he will lend you all some of his own strength to help you get through his tragic loss. Meechie, I know you lost, not only a brother, but a best friend, but I'm confident that you'll live out all of your dreams with Deontae's hand on your shoulder...stay strong. If any of you need anything please don't hesitate to get in contact with me, I can't even begin to imagine how hard this must be for all of you. Again, you're in my prayers.

Grace and Peace be unto you.To the family and loved ones.My heart and prayers go out to you,and also to the many friends who's lives your child touched along the way. We all know that the next breath isn't promised to any of us. But GOD'S word say's that he will NEVER leave us nor forsake us.Just know there are some things we may never be able to understand in this world, and although some things seem unfair just know that it's in the Masters plan. Just know that God see's your tears and when it seems that you can't feel or hear him, know that's when he is carrying you.It may seem right now that you don't understand or know how you're going to make it,but you will. Saints of God,please remember to keep this family in prayer each and every day because they will continue to need your prayers.I know when my mother passed away I just wanted someone to tell me when my heartache was going to pass, but their was no answer. Look to the hills which cometh your help. Know that God is not a man that should lie. We will all be together one day and rejoice. God does care for you.

To Tajjah, Meechie, and the rest of Deontae's family,
We were so saddened by what happened. Deontae was always a friendly, courteous, and fun young man. He just stopped over to see David a few weeks ago and it had been a long time since I had seen him. He was so handsome and fit and yelled goodbye to me before he left that day. I remember David and Deontae and Blendon track. I remember him trying so hard to break the school 400 meter record and David going over to your place and wanting to stay out way too late for what I thought middle school guys should be able to stay out until! David isn't home this week, but I'm sure he will be in contact with you when he returns. As the mother of young men my heart goes out to you and your whole family. Sometimes these young men think they are invinsible and we mothers can't tell them differently. We have lots of great memories of Deontae and I hope they can bring your peace in the days ahead.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
