To the Family of Earl Burden,
I want to express my deepest sympathy in the passing of Chief Earl. I have known the Chief since about 1950. We worked together "part time" at a frozen food locker store. This was early on in our careers.
As we progressed in our careers our friendship continued. When Earl became the Chief of Police for Columbus and I became the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney, I am pleased to say the "Chief" shared good advice with me over the years.
He made his mark on the community. May God keep him and bless him.
Sincerely,
George C. Smith,
United States District Court Judge

Earl was my neighbor for over 30 years. He remains a true friend, the epitome of a gentleman and a source of wisdom for me.

I shall dearly miss Earl. He was such a good neighbor and friend. He took such good care of his wife during her illness. I hope the Lord has a special place in heaven for him.

This man was what a good policeman hoped to grow into ! He was approachable with an air of earned respect ! He was a professional officer when the term was just starting to get public use ! He will be remembered by many as " The Chief "!
