Edwin Bartlett Obituary
BARTLETT Edwin Southworth Bartlett III, age 81, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2009 while surrounded by his beloved family, and in the presence of his sweet Lord. Born in Detroit, Michigan on November 4, 1928, he resided most of his adult life in Worthington, Ohio. Ed is preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Lucille Bartlett, sister Carolyn, and son Stevens. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Constance Cecelia; children, Judith (Douglas) Little, Victoria (Joseph) Erion, Lisa Bartlett, Stephanie (James) Lebron, Kenneth (Doreen) Bartlett, Catherine (James) Wolgamot, Charles (Kimberly) Bartlett; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Lynn Dunbar and brother, William (Kathy) Bartlett. Ed grew up in Detroit, Michigan, graduated from Cooley High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Michigan College of Mining and Technology. He later earned a Master of Science in Metallurgy from The Ohio State University. As a metallurgical engineer, Ed most enjoyed working in the laboratory and is credited with several patents culminating in a 34-year career with the Battelle Memorial Institute; Ed retired in 1990. Ed was a faithful member of Church of the Master in Westerville, Ohio and served many years as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. He also was a member of several church committees. Ed was a talented writer, and as an expression of his faith, he applied poetic license to interpret the entire Bible in limerick form, a portion of which has been published. Ed's testimony of faith lives through his childrens' love and service to the Lord. Ed's other great loves included music and family. In addition to piano and organ, he was a gifted trombone player and vocalist. He participated in Dixieland bands from high school throughout much of his adult life, and had a gift for improvisation. Ed was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, participating for many years in a local men's barber shop quartet. Ed also arranged music for the women's quartet that his wife, Connie, sang in for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Church of the Master for the African Missions Project, 24 North Grove Street, Westerville, Ohio 43081. On Tuesday, December 15, 2009, the family will receive visitors at 3 p.m., the memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at Church of the Master in Westerville, Ohio.
