1938 - 2018
Eugene "Gene" Gerhart, age 80, of Grove City, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 20 surrounded by family. Gene retired from General Motors after 31 years of service and also served his country in the U.S. Air Force. An avid aviator, he was a pilot before he learned to drive. Gene circled the skies of central Ohio towing ads for countless events in his beloved J3 Piper Cub. Gene was a member of Alkire Road Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge #689 and Quiet Birdman. He was born in Pottstown, PA to the late Edgar and Mildred (Bean) Gerhart. Gene married Mildred "Faye" Perry in March of 1959, and she preceded him in death after 35 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol (Marcum) Gerhart; brother, Robert (Wanda) Gerhart; his children, Teresa (David) Austin, Mark (Nell) Gerhart, Melissa (Brian) McGinnis and Melany (Devin) Lyon; and 11 grandchlidren and 7 great grandchildren; step children, Dan (Kim) Collier, John (Jacci) Collier, Sam (Lisa) Collier and Saroda (Jeremy) Phipps; and 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at THE SPENCE-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 2697 Columbus Street, Grove City, OH. Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Thursday at Alkire Road Church of Christ, 2779 Alkire Road, Grove City, OH. Interment will follow at Grove City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in his memory. Online guest book may be signed at www.spencemillerfuneralhome.com
