Evelyn Grinstead Obituary

GRINSTEAD Evelyn M. Gebhart Grinstead, age 87, of Upper Arlington, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Westminster Thurber Healthcare Center. She was born December 26, 1919 near Lowell, OH (Washington County). She was preceded in death by her mother Catherine H. Gebhart, father Louis, twin sister Esther Purcell, brothers, Louis H., Ernest J. and Clarence C. and loving husband of many years Carter H. Grinstead. Evelyn's spirit was loving, generous and kind and she was a supportive mother, friend and companion, faithful to her belief in the truth and wisdom of First Corinthians: 13 ("And the greatest of these is love"), by which she guided her life. She was a graduate of Bliss College and a longtime, active member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church, where she served in many roles and activities including Session and Deacons. Thirty years ago she inspired and helped to create and form The Boulevard Quilters, a group in which she was active to the present. She was an Honorary Life Member of the Columbus African Violet Society, and served as Past President of that organization. She was active in and President of the Ohio State African Violet Society, and served as Editor of their Newsletter. She was a member of Twig 100 for many years. Evelyn is survived by her children: Lois Patton of Albany, NY, Barbara Smith (Stan) of Macon, GA, and Donald Grinstead (Julie) of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren: Chrissie Hetes (Keith), Jeff Montgomery, Andrew, Seth and Brooke Grinstead, Steven and Brandon McNeely; great grandchildren: Cole and Caroline Hetes and Trinity McNeely; nieces, nephews, friends, other family members, and her feline companion and friend, Pou. Evelyn's spirit of love and graciousness will live on in all who knew her. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1235 Northwest Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212. Rev. James Sledge officiating. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Boulevard Presbyterian Church or to Senior Independence Hospice, 5796 Karl Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229.
