Frank Jenkins Obituary

JENKINS Frank "KO" Jenkins, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, 2 March 2010. He was born in London on August 23, 1926 to Paul and Gertrude (Scheurer) Jenkins. He graduated from London High School in 1944 where he played football. He attended The Ohio State University and he served in Germany in WWII. Throughout his life he was active in sports. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and fought in the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions. He was a high school football official for many years and also officiated for the Ohio Athletic Conference college league. He was especially known for his diving and swimming abilities. Frank also was involved in raising and racing harness horses. In his later life, as a member of the London Country Club, he loved to play golf and cards. Additionally he read and followed sports teams on television. He worked with the London Recreation Department where he managed the London Municipal swimming pool and also served as a volunteer fireman for the City of London. He was an eighteen year member and past president of the Madison County Mental Health Board. Frank was extremely active with work in the Masonic Temple. His accomplishments in this organization include: fifty year member and past Worshipful Master of Chandler Lodge No. 138 F&AM; Knighted Knight Templar 1958; Knight York Cross of Honor in Ohio Priory No. 18, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest Temple No. 62; and charter member, First Sovereign Master and emeritus member of John L. Owsley Council AMD No. 217. Frank was a life member of AMVETS, Post No. 19, DAV, Post No 93, H.V. Christopher Post #1176, VFW and Madison Memorial Post #105, American Legion. Frank retired as a journeyman tool and die maker from Westinghouse. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by wife of 64 years, Mary (Lewis); son, Barry (Stephanie Patrick) of Arlington, Virginia; daughters, Janet (Joe) Johnson of Plain City, Lynda (Les Barnhart) Jenkins-Heyl of London; grandchildren, Brian (Dr. Cynthia Cryder) Barnhart of St. Louis, Laura Barnhart of Columbus, Patrick Jenkins of Arlington, Virginia and Corinne Johnson of Hilliard; brother, Herman (Joan) Jenkins of Palmetto, Florida; and numerous nephews. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5 at the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME, 103 N. Main Street, London. There will be Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5. Cremation will follow services. If they wish, friends and family can make gifts in honor of Frank for Loving Care Hospice, P.O. Box 445, London, OH 43140.
