George Condos Obituary

CONDOS George Condos, 53, of Powell, died December 29, 2006, at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital of lung cancer. Born a U.S. citizen abroad in Lamia, Greece, on April 21, 1953, he was the son of the late Olga and Louis Kotopoulos who changed the family name to Condos when they moved to the U.S. At the age of 16, he fulfilled a childhood dream to come to the United States to study, graduating from Princeton High School in Cincinnati. Following in his father's footsteps, who first arrived from Greece in 1932 as a restaurateur, George created and opened his own restaurant, the Athenian, while a student at the University of Cincinnati. After selling the business in 1977, he took what he thought would be a temporary job as a manager trainee at a Wendy's in Middletown, Ohio. Within a few short years, he was an officer at Wendy's International where he worked for 28 years before his retirement in 2005. At Wendy's he held a variety of executive positions, including senior vice president of the southwest region, executive vice president of franchise and development and, most recently, executive vice president of operations for Wendy's North America. He is credited with developing Wendy's Super Value Menu, and was the first corporate employee inducted into Wendy's Hall of Fame in 1990. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by nieces Kiki Kapranos Tselos and Mary Kapranos and brother-in-law Kostas Panetsos. Survived by wife, Elizabeth; son, Alex of Dublin; mother- and father-in-law, Beverly and William Bryan of Upper Arlington; sisters, Olympia (Dinos) Kapranos of Lamia, Greece, Athena Kritseli (George) of Athens, Greece, and Niki Panetsos of Lamia; twin brother, Nick (Vasiliki) of Lamia; nieces, Anthoula (Vaios) Kallos of Athens, Maria Panetsos of Lamia and Olga Kotopoulos of Lamia; nephews, Dimitri Kritseli of Athens and Elias Kotopoulos of Lamia; great-nephew, Alexis Kallos of Athens. At George's request, a private funeral will be held in Burkhart Chapel at First Community Church with Dr. Richard Wing and Rev. James Long officiating. A memorial will be held in Lamia, Greece. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Contributions in George's memory may be made to the George Condos Memorial Fund at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Center, James Development Office, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Ohio 43218 or to First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio 43212.

I worked with George for around 10 yrs in the Company Operations Division of Wendy's in the 80's. He had incredible drive and insight. Even though he was intense on Wendy's matters, he had a huge heart and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. We had so much fun! I feel very privledged to have known him. His passing makes me so sad. Please accept my sympathy for your loss. We all will miss him.

Liz,

I wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my prayers. George was small in stature, but large in heart and spirit. He helped me tremendously when we lost Bob Cortelyou. He was so passionate in everything he did. He will be missed.

If there is anything I can do please let me know.

Although I did not have the opportunity to know "Mr. Condos" very long it was incredibly obviously his love for his family and life in general. He was truely an inspiration to me. The love he had for the people around him, especially his lovely wife was outstanding. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. He definitely went out fighting and I know that meant so much to him. We now have a new angel watching over us. He will be one patient that will forever be with me. -Kris, RN 7 James

Dear Liz,
Please accept my deepest sympathy in your loss. May the knowledege that George had such a positive effect on so many lives, including mine, bring you some confort at such a difficult time. I'll never forget his "love you, Buddy" everytime we spoke. George always was more concerned about what going on in your life than he was in talking about himself. He was a gentleman with a big heart and always will have a special place in my heart. May you find comfort in knowing so many people loved George and the tremendous influence he had on so many lives.
With love,
Joyce Eufemi
