Jeffrey Routte Obituary

Routte Jeffrey Allen Routte, age 57, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, in his residence. He was born August 27, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio. Jeff was a retired Captain with the Prairie Township Fire Department, a former member of the Jefferson Township Fire Department and past employee of the Mt. Carmel Connection. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved trapping and was an art collector. Jeff is survived by two sons, Scott (Teresa) Routte, Hunter Routte; mother, Joann (Larry) Watts; grandchildren, Mason and Avery Routte; sisters, Mary (Bill) Kay, Karol (Dean) Ortlieb; numerous nieces, nephews, all his brother firefighters and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Stanley Routte. Friends may call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, 775 Galloway Rd., Galloway, Ohio 43119, where the Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Nathan Custer and Rev. Larry Baker officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prairie Township Fire Department. The family is being served by the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, West Jefferson.

Captain Routte,
Yes sir, always Capt. in my heart. I was blessed to know you for many years. You were a great friend, tremendous team player on the fire fighter softball teams we played on together. Most importantly, you were an inspiration to many of us younger guys. You took your time and went out of your way to explain every detail of the fire service and family. Everyone was a "brother" in your eyes. I am very honored to have learned from the best dating back to the Mt Carmel Connection days. Your stories of the old days are still talked about today. Thank you for all the life and job lessons. Rest in peace Captain! I salute you!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Jeff was a very kind, caring, respectful and loving person. He touched many lives over the years. My heart also goes out to the many Firefighters especially those who have worked with him at Prairie Township over the years. This is such a great loss to all those who knew and loved him and worked with him. I got to know Jeff through Parr Emergency while I was working for them and will never forget him.
