John Meadows Obituary

Meadows, John A.
1972 - 2021
John A. Meadows, 49, of Pickerington, Ohio, died unexpectedly, August 8, 2021, peacefully in his home. Born April 11, 1972, in Washington Courthouse, Ohio and there he attended Washington High School graduating in 1990. He then earned his Bachelor of Arts in Health and Fitness from Capital University.
John experienced much success in his time on earth. This can be attributed to his humble approach to life but ultimately his devotion to his Catholic Faith which permeated his decision making and way of living. Whether it be within the realm of bodybuilding competitions, training others, his entrepreneurial endeavors, coaching football or fatherhood. His greatest achievement was simply just being "Dad" to his twin boys, Jonathan and Alexander. He sadly leaves behind the one who was always in his corner, his wife, Mary (Quitter). John's brotherly love will also be missed by his dear sister, Christina Dobbins. He is bereaved also by Aunts Patty Trenner and Lynn Harperee and cousin, Kyle Trenner. He was preceded in death by his mom Linda Dobbins, beloved grandmother that raised him, Carolyn Meadows, and great-grandmother Dorothy Smith. John will be remembered for how he pushed us to be a better version of ourselves. He was a generous, trusting and loving man set apart from the rest and he truly leaves behind a legacy. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Friday at DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Rd. N., Pickerington and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 600 Hill Rd N., Pickerington. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Etna. Online condolences can be made at www.spencefuneralhome.com.

John, I came to your videos on youtube shortly after your death and had no idea you passed until just now. Yesterday I watched something upsetting that made me hope the Lord is coming back soon and then shortly after turned on one of your videos and you had a beautiful blue Blessed Mother shirt on...I felt moved and like it was a sign. I stopped praying the rosary out of spiritual laziness and personal struggles, but I realize I need to trust the Lord more and honor his holy mother better. You seemed like such a precious man here on Earth, and I know that you are in Heaven looking after your wife and children. I love how her name is Mary btw. From a stranger, I send you love John :)

It still hasn´t sunk in. At age 48, I started watching your YouTube videos, inspiring me to pick up weight lifting again. Because of you I gained more mass than I could have ever imagined. The world is a much sadder place without you in it. Until we meet in Heaven, I´ll promise to "Train Like a Dog."

John touched many lives on this earth, so many of whom will now never get to meet him. At times when I struggled and was alone, watching John's latest video for his warmth, knowledge, candor, and spiritual fortitude was a huge blessing for me. He was the father I always wanted. I know he was so much more than what I could know through a video, but it was enough to change my life.

John will always be talked about. His memory and all the good things he did will be kept alive. Most importantly, his sons will carry his legacy. Mary, Jonathan, and Alexander, you have my deepest condolences.

Rest in peace, John, I love you. God bless and keep the Meadows family.

Never had the pleasure or honor of meeting John but knew he is a great person. Aside from giving endless amounts of knowledge, he was an amazing family man and I loved how he showed his son do yo yo tricks before one of his videos. Was hoping to meet him at a show and to be able to talk with him. I know he was an approachable and genuine person. Heart goes out to his entire family. Rest easy John

Couple years back I was almost 300lbs and wasn´t sure where to go. I didn´t have the support in my life and finding Johns channel felt like the uncle I never had. So knowledgeable, caring, and wanting people to succeed. I tribute losing over 100lbs to him. I plan on pursuing personal training and I just hope I can become just 1% of what he was.

It was a pleasure to be able to say you and I spoke to one another even if it was mainly online, you invited me to places and told me when you´d be there because you knew how much admiration for you I had. John was what I call rare and hard to find these days. Just a tremendously good human being and the whole world is at loss. I´ll never forget everything you taught, it has shaped all my training and helped me so much.

Long live the mountain dog.

If we could all be just half the human being that John was with his humility and empathy, this world would be a much better place. Oh, he wasn't without his flaws--he did hail from the Buckeye State after all. But John? From this proudly born Wolverine, I say "Hail To The Victors," and to you. Thank you for being a better man than the rest of us.

August 12, 2021

Dear John,

You gave me more than I deserve, and yet I know you had so much more to give. It hurts to imagine the loss your family and close friends are experiencing. I'm just one of your fans, and yet I've lost a coach, an inspiration, a teacher, a role model, and a friend who I never had the privilege to actually meet. I will truly miss seeing those mountaindog1 notifications, hearing "Alright hi everybody John Meadows here...", and then within 3 minutes watching your latest victim grimacing in pain.

With you gone, now I can only hope that in life you grasped and understood what you really meant to so many of us. You kept me on track as a trainee and as a person through some very dark and difficult times.

I'll strive to honor your memory by trying to be a little more like you. This means I'll show humility and treat others with respect. I'll help and encourage those around me to become their best selves. I'll work hard every day to better myself as a husband and father, and of course in the gym, too. I'll overcome life's inevitable obstacles and setbacks with grace and tenacity. You are a legend - one of the best to ever do it.

Thank you, and rest in peace.

It cannot be put into words how much John impacted not only our view on fitness, but humanity as a whole. His humbleness, kindness and genuine passion shined through each of his interactions both online and offline.

This is an unexpected loss but we should be glad that his friends, family and fans all made it EXTREMELY clear how much they admired him. Usually these posivitive words only surface when someone passes, but he was showered with admiration while doing what he loved
