Joseph Cotter Obituary

COTTER Joseph F. Cotter, Sr., 88, born November 29, 1919 passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2008. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann Marie, sons Danny and Kevin, parents Garrett and Agnes Cotter and all of his eight siblings Robert (Pauline), Garrett "Buddy" (Helen), William (Rose), Jack (Millie), Edmond (Louise), Thomas "Bo" Mary (Ray) Orr and Ann Berger. Survived and will be dearly missed by children, Joseph Jr. (De), Judith (Nicholas) Zuk, Mary (Barry) Adler and Ann Marie "Amy" Cotter; along with 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren (one more expected in January); brother-in-law, Harold Berger and sister-in-law, Phyllis Cotter. He graduated from Rosary High School. Joe was a WWII US Army veteran where he was stationed in the Philippines, a former member of The Shamrock Club and Charity Newsies (of which his father was a co-founder). Joe retired from the US Postal Service. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be remembered for his Irish charm, kindness, generosity and sense of humor. His passing represents the end of an era in that he was the last of Garrett and Agnes Cotter's nine children. He and Ann Marie were devout Catholics and attended Immaculate Conception Church for over 40 years. His family extends their heartfelt thanks for the loving care that he received at Summerville at Outlook Manor. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:15 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 E. North Broadway. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 701 E. Columbia Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45215 or Charity Newsies, 4300 Indianola Ave., Columbus, OH 43214. It's hard to believe that Grandpa is no longer with us. I loved him so much (and I was certainly not alone in that precious mission)!
Joe, Judy, Mary and Amy, I love you and I know that Grandpa cherished all of you & would want you to be strong.

Although this is such a sad time, it does give me comfort to know that he is now with Grandma (his true love). May we all love and be loved as they both were.
