Karen HALPERN Obituary
(née Drabin)
Peacefully, on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 with courage and dignity. Beloved wife and best friend of Rick for forty years. Devoted daughter of Alice and the late Lou Drabin. Deeply loved and forever cherished by her children Jack and Paulina, Lyana and Chris, Jordan and Janina, and her "special" love, Dusty. Proud and loving Grandma of Sophie, Jonah; and Rachel. Dearest sister of Scott, and the late Steven; and sister-in-law of Bill and Anastasia. Karen will be deeply missed by her family and close friends. A very special thank-you to Sherebel for her exceptional care, kindness and friendship. The family wishes to acknowledge the doctors, nurses and staff at Mount Sinai Hospital and of 4 West at the Jewish General Hospital for their ongoing compassionate care. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Thursday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at the Chevra Kadisha B'nai Jacob Congregation Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O. Shiva at her home after 1:00 p.m. daily, evening services at 7:30 p.m. Contributions in Karen's memory may be made to the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation, (514) 369-2222, ext. 1299, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, (514) 255-5151.

I am a friend of Linda McKenzie and also a student of "Ms. Drabin" from McCaig a long time ago. She was the sweetest teacher an elementary student could ever have. She took myself and Linda under her wing the year we had her. Blessings to your family at this most difficult time. I will always remember her.

Miss Drabin was my favorite teacher at McCaig Elementary School many, many years ago. I was a very awkward girl and she made me feel special.
