Katherine Kuck Obituary

Kuck, Katherine
Katherine M. Kuck, Galena, Ohio. Sunrise, September 25, 1950, Sunset, January 23, 2021. Katherine was a 1968 graduate of Perrysburg High School and received her B.A in journalism and Masters degree from Bowling Green State University. Katherine was feisty, smart and full of energy. She began her career as a reporter and assistant professor, then moved to Columbus Ohio where she worked for many years at the Ohio Statehouse as the Legislative Aide to Speaker Pro Tem Barney Quilter and State Representative Sandra Harwood. She also held executive roles with the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, Ohio Primary Care Association, Association of Ohio Health Commissioners, Ohio Department of Health, and Pearl Interactive Network. Her energy was also reflected in her volunteer activity, and she was a longtime board member of UHCAN Ohio, the Universal Health Care Action Network. An active member of the Harlem Township Civic Association, Harlem Township Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Central Committee of the Delaware County Democratic Party, she championed voter registration and education and the protection of the unique environment of the Hoover Reservoir area. In 1985 she married James Henderson, her knight in shining armor, and is survived by him, by her sister, Sue Combs of Dayton; and her brother, James Kuck of Perrysburg. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ellen Kuck. Friend to anything, human or animal, who came to her door, Katherine was a force of nature and couldn't sit still when she thought some good thing needed her effort – or her prodding. She left us after a long battle with cancer, but stayed engaged with her friends, community and politics to the end. Katherine always loved a party, but didn't want to be the center of attention. To honor that wish, a private ceremony will be held now, but a celebration of life will be held next summer when it is once again safe to gather with our friends. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to UHCAN, 360 S Third St., Columbus, Ohio 43215. Arrangements by O'SHAUGHNESSY COMPANY, call 614-221-2311 with questions, or share a memory at oshaughnessycompany.com.

KK and I were lifelong friends since high school. We did a lot of crazy things together that we laughed about for yrs. As time went on , we didn´t see each very often, but that didn´t interfere with one of the truest friends there could ever be. I miss that adventuresome gal so much. It´s coming up on 3 yrs. now that she left us. Had I only known at the time. KK - I would have been there to say see you later. Love you , Huff!

She has left us nearly a year ago. What a wonderful woman KK was and what contributions she made to improve the health of communities. Jim, I hope you are managing and that the memories grow sweeter with less pain.

I met Kathy over four summers of running a local day camp near their home, as she, her husband and pets walked the trails each day. So friendly, compassionate and caring. I will miss her this summer.

Katherine helped me develop relationships with members of the Ohio general assembly when I first came to the then Bureau of Employment Services, bringing her charm and humor and immense talent to each day and letting me ride along. She is among the warmest-hearted people I’ve known, and the world is less for her leaving.

Katherine offered me my first job in Columbus when I returned to Ohio. She was an amazing advocate and her deep feeling for all beings--human or animal--is so true. So sad to lose her. Deepest condolences to Jim and her siblings.
