Lorna Marks Obituary

MARKS Lorna Burns Marks of Whitehall, Ohio passed away April 11, 2011. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia, May 21, 1938 to James Robert and Helen June Matthews Burns. She grew up in Cross Lanes, West Virginia and graduated from Nitro High School. Lorna loved genealogy and after retiring from Defense Suppy Center Columbus in 1998 after 30 years of service, she dedicated her time to researching, collecting photos, and documenting family history on the web. She delighted in finding "new cousins." She loved to read, work in her yard, share time with her mother and listen to classical music. She was a volunteer at the Whitehall branch of public library. She adored her cats, Chessie and Nikki. Preceded in death by her father, Lorna is survived by her mother, Helen Burns; children, Susan Harris and Steven Marks (Esther); grandchildren, Tiawna (Ardo) Ebrahim, Mitchell Harris (Christie); and great-grandchildren, Malayka and Jasmine. Per Lorna's request, there will be no services. She is deeply mourned and sadly missed by family and friends.

I was so sorry to learn of her death. Although we never met we had many conversations via e-mail concerning genealogy and exchanging pictures. I will miss her.

I worked with Lorna for many years at DSCC. She was a great friend. I remember helping her pick out one of her beloved cats. God bless her and may He be with her mom.

I too worked with Lorna for many years and was blessed to call her a close friend. We shared much laughter and wonderful tidbits about our families. She loved her children and was so proud of her precious grandchildren. I shall cherish those memories and pray that you will find peace in your memories. God Bless you all - Pam Cooper
