Martha Travis Obituary

TRAVIS Martha Madeline Travis, 95, born February 15, 1914 in Chillicothe, Oh., passed away March 2, 2009 at Isabelle Ridgway Care Center. Educated in the Chillicothe school system, Martha retired after 13 years of employment with The Athletic Club, 25 years with the Simpson Company, and 16 years of volunteer service at Park Medical Center. She was baptized by the late Pastor Emeritus E.A. Parham of Trinity Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a member of the Dorcas Home and Foreign Missionary Society, the Mission Chorus, Bible Class No. 3 and the Catering Ministry. Preceded in death by husband Marshall B. Travis Sr., mother Goldie Roberts, daughter Marlene Johnson, brothers James H. Harris and Wilbur Scott, sister Margaret Tyler, daughters-in-law Alice Travis and Addie Jordan. Survived by sons, Marshall B. Jr. and Robert J. Travis; devoted step-daughter, Betty (Willie) Hampton; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends, including Ocie Battle, Evelyn Tyree, Shirlene Murray, Valarie Morrison and her extended Trinity church family. Homegoing Celebration 2 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 at Trinity Bapstist Church, 461 St. Clair Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the start of service. Pastor Victor M. Davis, officiating. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street. Dear family and friends,

We are sincerely grateful that Ms. Travis embraced us with her beautiful and soft-spoken spirit while residing here at Isabelle Ridgway Care Center.

We will always cherish, admire and remember her faithful work and impressive accomplishments!
