Lew was a classmate from 7th grade on and we've stayed in touch through reunions since then. He was a good person, husband, and father. My sympathy to the family at this time of loss.

Lew Shady and I entered Bess Sperry's first grade class in the West Broad Street School in Columbus in 1943. We continued through junior and senior high and we've been friends ever since. Even though we have seen each other only sporadically through the years we picked up each time as though nothing had intervened. I've been hurting for my friend these past few years, first as I watched him struggle with that terrible lung disease and then when Lois died two years ago. We've spoken only once by telephone since then. I could hear the hurting and struggle in his voice but also that incredible Lew Shady optimism! RIP Martin Lewis Shady!
