Marvin Ellis Obituary

Ellis, Marvin Eugene
Marvin Eugene Ellis, age 70 of Westerville died Thursday morning, December 21, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 22, 1947 in Portsmouth, Ohio the son of the late Harold Edward and Pauline (Tackett) Ellis. Marvin is now reunited with his beloved wife, Judy Ellis, who preceded him in death in 2011. Marv was a 1965 graduate of Portsmouth High school and a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam during the war as a weapons specialist. After his honorable discharge, he committed himself to a life of service as a member of the 55th recruiting class of the Columbus Police Department. His service spanned 3 decades, retiring in 2007. During the early nineties, Marv was partial owner of the family owned Creme Corner in Sunbury. He was also partial owner of the Sunbury Car Wash in the mid to late eighties. He held membership in the FOP, Capital City Lodge #9.
Marv enjoyed fishing and boating and was quite the gun enthusiast. In addition, he was also an avid OSU Football and Blue Jackets Hockey fan.
He was the life of any party, had a wonderful sense of humor, and could play a mean hand of Euchre. Marv was well known for his amazing story-telling ability. After a lifetime in military and police work, he had numerous stories to tell and his friends and family enjoyed listening to those stories time after time. Marv will be deeply missed by his daughters Jennifer (Ellis) Powell and her husband Jeff of Gahanna, Jessica Ellis of Columbus, and Denise (Anklam) Drewes and her husband Bob of Washington State; his granddaughters Emma and Grace Powell; brother Paul (Sandy) Ellis of North Port, Florida; sister Patricia (James) Chandley of Howard; brother-in-law Lester Shiveley of North Port, Florida; his beloved dog, Maverick; and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends including Marv's long-time best friend and CPD partner, Steve Kelley. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sister Janice Shiveley. A celebration of Marvin's Life will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 1-4 PM at the FOP, Capital City Lodge #9, 6800 Schrock Hill Ct, Columbus, OH 43229. I graduated from Portsmouth High School with Marvin. He was such a kind and caring young man. I was glad to see him at one of our mini-reunions in Westerville a year ago. We had a great conversation. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. May God hold his family and friends in His warm and loving embrace, as they go through this most difficult time.

Happy Easter!

Marv's life was always uplifting. He had the most amazing smile which in turn put smiles on anyone that met him. He could be onry but he was more full of fun and happiness then anyone else I knew. When my sister Judy was alive they had our family over for all the holidays. But even with her passing he and his good friend Christy would get together with us all. These times will be remembered by all of us. We love & miss you Marv. Attached is a picture of Marv & Petey at an Easter get together he had with us.
