Mathew Herban III

Herban Mathew Herban III, PhD, age 74, of Worthington, OH (formerly of Annapolis, MD), died unexpectedly Friday, February 15, 2013 at his home. Emeritus Professor of Art History at The Ohio State University. Survived by wife, Tricia; son, Joe (Angela); granddaughters, Hailey Christine and Kylie Livingston Herban, all of Worthington, OH; sister, Noret (Richard) Dovel of Virginia Beach, VA; nephews, Michael (Dawn), Jeffrey and Stephen Dovel. 1956 graduate of Washington Lee H.S., Arlington, VA; B.A. from American University; M.A. from Boston University; PhD from University of Pennsylvania. Mat enjoyed teaching above all else and was widely recognized for the enthusiasm and knowledge he conveyed. His crayon and paper art were an important part of his life. An accomplished cook and enthusiastic gardener, Mat loved travel and he loved his Westies. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 700 High St., Worthington, OH 43085. Family will receive friends at the church following the service.
