Mervyn McGeown Obituary
1944 - 2019
Mervyn John "Merv" McGeown age 74 of Dublin, Ohio died Saturday, February 9, 2019. He was born on September 7, 1944 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the late James & Isobel McGeown. Merv graduated from DeSales Catholic High School in Lockport, New York and Niagara University. Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He married the late Ellen J. Hendrickson on August 29, 1970 in Denver, Colo. Before settling in Columbus, Merv & Ellen made their home in Chicago, Minneapolis and in Michigan. He retired from CNA Insurance. Merv married his loving wife, Ann on October 28, 2017; he is also survived by children, John M. (Denise) McGeown of St. Petersburg, FL & Jennifer Ellen (John-David) Alford of Chelsea, MI; grandchildren, Isobel Lovie & Connell James Alford; sisters, Maureen Conley & Bernadette Kane; brother, Patrick McGeown; many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, February 15, 2019 at St. Brigid of Kildare Church, 7179 Avery Road, Dublin, OH. Burial service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to: University of Michigan Sarcoma Research Fund in Mervyn's memory. Hi. My name is Aida Gerbec and I live at 4466 Dunleary Dr., a couple of doors down from Merv. I met him a few years back while walking my dogs. I had recently been diagnosed with sarcoma and was recuperating after surgery. Imagine my surprise when he shared he too had been diagnosed w/sarcoma. He was receiving Chemo at Univ. of Mich following surgery, I believe. He was an angel for me that day. His warm support and concern for me while he himself was going through treatment, still brings tears to my eyes. I knew I had met someone very special and kind. We saw each other periodically after that day but life got in the way. Please accept my condolences . I feel like our neighborhood has just gotten a bit smaller.
