Meyer Weisman Obituary

Weisman Meyer H. Weisman, age 89, passed away on December 13, 2016. Preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Lena Weisman, sister Jeannette Lurie. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann; sons, Jeff (Jennifer) Weisman and Scott (Tammy) Weisman; sisters, Barbara Cohen and Becky (Joe) Zoldan; grandchildren, Aaron, Justin, Ethan, Shane, Ella, Liza and Avery Weisman; brother-in-law, George Jacobs; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Meyer was a lifelong resident of Columbus, started working for a local downtown jeweler in 1942 when he was 15 years old to help his family during the Great Depression. When he was 17, he volunteered and joined the Navy to represent the USA in World War II. He spent 2 years in the military and went back home to Columbus and back to work for the same jeweler. Twenty years later, Meyer decided to open up his own store in the Great Southern Shopping Center on the South side of Columbus, and that was the start of Meyers Jewelers. In October Meyers Jewelers celebrated their 50th anniversary at their newest freestanding location in Grove City, OH. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14 at CONGREGATION AGUDAS ACHIM, 2767 E. Broad St. Interment will follow at New Agudas Achim Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the home of Ann and Meyer Weisman on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 8-10 p.m. and Sunday from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Congregation Agudas Achim or Zusman Hospice in his memory. I worked for Meyer at his Great Southern Shopping Center Store back in 1987 to 1989. He was a wonderful person to work for and with. He treated me as family. I just found out yesterday talking to another person who worked at another jewelry store that Meyer had passed away. I am very saddened by this. He was so kind and caring. He stood by me when I went through a personal tragedy while I worked for him. I will never forget that! I will miss him so very much! My prayers and thoughts are with his family! Love, Cathy McDanel

Your family has been so special to our family. Your dad , husband, and grandpa grew up with my father Dick Traphagan. They both served the Navy and played basketball together. Our family has always had the utmost respect for Meyer. As a child of 9 I bought my first ring from him and in the next 55 years bought jewelery for our family and friends. We also got our wedding rings and anniversary gifts at Meyer's. I am so glad Jeff and Scott are carrying on the family business of which your Dad was so proud of. May you know how many lives he touched and that he made everyone who walked through the door feel so special. So hopefully your memories will help carry you through your low days and know your Dad is looking down on you. He was so very proud of you .

I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I only meet Meyer thru his jewelry store business. I so admired him. I always remember back to him at his Great Southern store and he was the first business/person to give me credit. I was 18 and wanted to buy a watch for my husband for Christmas. Meyer let me make payments. I am now 68 and I remember that and him so fondly. This shows what a great generous person he was.

TO THE FAMILY OF MEYER H . WEISMAN::

Scott & Tammy:

We we saddened to learn that Meyer had passed away. We are so very sorry for your loss. Please accept our sympathy and condolences.

We bought our wedding rings from Meyer in 1959 when he was working at Rogers Jewelers at the Town and Country Shopping Center. (Rogers was located between the Boston store and B. Goodman's) Meyer was always friendly, smiling and treated everyone with respect. We always watch Meyer's ads on television.

We hope that time and loving memories will bring you comfort and peace. Meyer will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Scott, Jeff and the entire family, I am deeply sorry for your loss, your father was an amazing man and always made me feel welcomed when I came into the store.
I bought my first diamond ring from your father at the south high store over 30 years ago and your father treated me like a friend and that is why I have continued to purchase all of my jewelry needs big or small from your family. Scott and Jeff you will definitely carry on the legacy. Every time I come through those doors one of you guys or Tracy always greet me on a first name basis just like your father did every time I went in the south high store and that my friends is truly why I continue
to come back, regardless how far away I may be. God bless all of you through these trying times

To all of you, your father was a great man and businessman. I grew up on the east side the later years from 1963 to 75 just before I got married in June of that year. We lived on Napoleon Court right behind the Kahaki, went to Town and Country always, my Father Howard Ripple knew Jack Ratner very well and dealt with him then met your Dad and then continued with him at Town & Country, whenever I would walk by he would yell out hi Debbie, always wanted to get to your store and see him again, but I have lived in Granville and now Newark for 41 years. Always love your ads and you guys will carry on the legacy for sure. My Dad was night manager at the old Clarmont back in the 50's and early 60's and then went to Kuenning's on East Main so knew your dad well. My Dad passed away in 1999 of cancer and my Mom in 1982 so glad you have your Mom and had your dad as long as you have. I have a wonderful husband he is from Albany, NY and retired now I am 65. I was 69 graduate of Eastmoor. Bless you all.

When I was 16 I bought my first of several pieces of jewelry from Meyer. What a grand man he was! I was buyng (on time) a $40 ring...he treated me with every bit the same respect as someone in there spending many, many times that amount. he was so kind and I'll never forget him.

Meyer sold us our wedding rings when he worked at Rogers Jewelers in Town & Country Shopping Center. He always remembered what he sold you, in detail. He was a phenomenal business man, an outstanding Carnegie graduate. We always returned to Meyer for our jewelry needs over the years. God bless you, Meyer Weisman!!
