Michael Haines Obituary

HAINES Michael Earl Haines, born June 16, 1949 to Robert and Geraldine Haines, deceased February 7, 2009. Mike Haines graduated from Whetstone High School in 1967. Mike played in various popular bands from the age of 16, traveling for much of his life playing largely in the South. He returned to Columbus 27 years ago, found gainful employment with local attornies and played with several locally based musical groups. He is father to two sons, Justin and Shawn; and grandfather to five beautiful and beloved grandsons. In these declining years, Mike was well served by treasured friends (old and new), extended family, and caring professionals from The Village at Westerville and Riverside Methodist Hospital. He is remembered for his generosity of spirit, his courageous struggles, and a genuine faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Memorial service and celebration of life will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Vineyard Church, 6000 Cooper Rd., Westerville. Fellowship with lunch following at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vineyard Church of Columbus.

Mike - thanks for teaching me the ropes down at WW&R - I still use some of the old stand by phrases that you taught me....and yes, they still get me in trouble!!! I am sorry that we lost contact for such a long time and to hear of your struggles - Thanks for all that you did for me.

Mike was a fine talent on bass, and had thunder in his voice. I was fortunate to work with Mike as signer, a friend, and fellow bass player. We had some great times singing together. He was one of the first singers in town to impress me.
He will be greatly missed.

I have known Mike and enjoyed his friendship since 1966. He had an incredible voice and a heart as big as the sky. He was a true friend and will be sorely missed. Rock on, my brother.

I sometimes think that the only thing bigger than Mike's robust voice was his intense passion for music. From the moment I first heard him belt out a song with his magnificent tone and power and through the years I had the immense privilege of playing with him in Strongbow, I remained in awe of his God-given talent to "deliver" a song. He will no doubt live on in the hearts and minds of his family and friends and the many people he touched with his marvelous talent.
