Sista Rose, My dear friend. I just discovered today that the Lord had called you home. Over the years I've thought of you often and cherished your friendship. Sista Rose touched the lives of so many people. The community was better in so many ways because of her giving and selfless personality. May God continue to bless your son Macharia Hamadi, your grandson Elys and your brother Warren during this difficult time and for all the time to come.

My condolences to the Rose Family.
Sista Rose,it has taken some time for me to grapple with your transition. To me, you were my Earthly Angel & Mentor.Indeed, you were a Master Educator & a kind, intelligent soul. You nourished me in times of professional need, and soothed me during personal challenges.
It was in your classroom at Johnson Park,as your substitute teacher for a day, that my career with CPS began. I was never treated so well by a room full of young people, and that was a direct reflection of you!
Many people don't know that YOU were the genesis for Johnson Park Chess. I volunteered to coach the team after seeing 2 students playing the game (and Maccala) in your classroom after school. Any success we had I attribute to you.
Later,we would meet again,as you guided me while working with the Gifted & Talented program. You were so good that you "taught the teachers to teach."
Because of you, I know that "Angels do walk the Earth."
God Bless as He holds you as always.

Thanks to all of you who supported us at this time of sorrow. Your support and presence transformed this into an experience of joy as we focused on the life Phyllis lived and how she impacted so many other lives. The support you provided to Hamadi was wonderful, and needed. He planned two spectacular services for his mother, and did a great job of it, with your help. You were all great.
The drummers, the dancers, the singers, and the recorded music inspired and uplifted me. Phyllis was one of Nina Simone's most dedicated fans. Then my friend, Corrie Albert, took me and the entire church to a place of joy and comfort. "Oh, How I Love Jesus" because He first loved me, was a perfect song. And she sang it in a spectacular manner. And the Rev. Dr. Susan Smith worked the three lives in her sermon together in such a dramatic way, that it was not surprising to have the entire congregation clapping, yelling, and praising God for the life of Phyllis as she finished the sermon. Phyllis was looking our way, thrilled and delighted, I am sure.
Thank you each and everyone!

I feel pressed, perplexed and struck down. But the Word and my dear wise friend Phyllis would say, "You're not destroyed".
I was blessed to have had Phyllis as a sister. She was sincere, caring, loyal and wise. Our friendship was as solid as a rock for forty years. I'm going to miss our long talks where we tried to solve the world's problems. I'm forever grateful that we have laughed, cried and danced together on this journey of life.
There will be a hole in my heart, but it will be filled over time when I think of your kindness toward mankind.
Hamadi, you know I'm here for you. May God comfort and give you strength.
Rest In Peace Girlfriend.

Hamadi, Warren and the entire family,
I still can't believe that one of my "besties" has gone on. Fortunately, I, like all of you ,have many happy memories to cherish. Let us all strive to live the kind of life that she did with commitment, passion and compassion for all of God's children, especially the disenfranchised.

Hamadi and Warren, my heart aches with the knowledge of the passing of your mother and sister. My prayers will remain with you as we all grieve her departure and reflect on our life with an incredible woman. Phyllis LOVED her family and friends and she will be forever missed and remembered.
We were friends for over 40 years. During that time we laughed A LOT and shared our life stories. She was my compass when I was off course. She was always there for me. I know that Jesus loves me because he gave me a gift in her that I didn't deserve and to that I say, "Thank you Jesus." So, she's has return to the Father and is basking in the glory and presence of our LORD, singing LOUDLY His praises.
Phyllis, I love you. SEVA, SEVA!!!

Phyllis, (Mama Rose) was an angel to me and my family. Up until the day she went to be with the Lord she was concerned about the well being of others. She truly had a spririt we all should embrace. I am blessed to have had her in my life and I cherish the time and love she has given to my children. I am comforted in knowing I told her I loved her before she left to receive her ultimate love from God. Hamadi your mother loved you, continue to be strong and we are here to help support you.
