Richard Billman Obituary

BILLMAN Dr. Richard H. Billman, age 82, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 at his home on South Street in Jackson surrounded by his family. He was born in Sullivan, Indiana, February 23, 1927, to Mr and Mrs Dale C. Billman. He graduated from Sullivan High School, Sullivan, Indiania. Upon completion of High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years. After discharge from the Navy, he immediately entered Walbash College at Crawfordsville, Indiana and graduated with a B.A. Degree in Science. Following graduation from Walbash College, Dr. Billman went to graduate school at The Ohio State University and received his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the college of optometry in 1953. After graduation he set up private practice in Jackson, Ohio in 1954. He was married to Ann Parry, resulting in the birth of three beautiful children, Rick (Mary Elizabeth) Billman of Jackson, Gweneth Banner of Hanoverton Ohio, and David (Teresa) Billman of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by the following grandchildren, Kyle Banner, Greg Banner, Elizabeth Billman, Rebecca Billman, Sarah Billman, Ann Billman, Vaughn Billman and Meredith Billman; one great grandchild, Caden Banner. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Parry Billman, brother Dale C. "Bill" Billman, and parents Mr and Mrs. Dale C. Billman. He is survived by wife, Alana Billman; and sister-in-law, Miriam Billman of Terre Haute, Indiania. Dr. Billman was a member of the Jackson Lions Club since 1955, member of the Presbyterian Church, Elks, Southern Hills Arts Council, Garden Tenders Garden Club, served as Central Committeemen for the Republican Party for 30 years, Honorary Lifetime Board membership, American Cancer Society and served 25 years as Treasurer of Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation. He also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Funeral service 1 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Downton officiating burial to follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call 1-8 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the EISNAUGLE-LEWIS FUNERAL HOME with a Lions Memorial service there also. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jackson Lions Club having been involved for 55 plus years of fellowship; Southern Hills Art Council and the Jackson County Unit of the American Cancer Society Presbyterian Church Relay For Life team.
