Richard McWhirter Obituary

McWHIRTER Richard C. McWhirter, Sr. 84, formerly of 1056 Afton Road, Columbus, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at Charleston Area Medical Center/Teays Valley Hospital. He had been in failing health. Richard was born in Crestline on May 1, 1924 to the late Charles R. and Elsa (Oehler) McWhirter. He married Lois E. Fisher on March 25, 1951, and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2007. Richard lived in Columbus since 1970 having moved from Crestline. He was employed by ConRail as a Yard Master until retirement in 1986. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Columbus, and previously Trinity Lutheran Church, Crestline. He was a member of the Arcana Lodge #272, F.& A.M., Crestline. He is survived by his son, Richard C. McWhirter, Jr, Columbus; his daughter, Kathy and Romie Edens, Jr., Charleston, WV; two grandchildren, Jacob K. McWhirter, Crystal M. McWhirter; one great- granddaughter, Emily; a sister, Ruth Englehart, Lexington; a sister-in-law, Virginia Fisher, Crestline; several nieces and nephews and cousins. Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the MARK A. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, Crestline. Masonic Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008, at MARK A. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, Crestline, with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline. Online condolences may be made to the family at masfh.com
