Richard Scranton Obituary

Scranton Richard "Dick" Scranton, 86, of Columbus, OH, died Thursday, February 13, 2014. Preceded in death by his daughter Patricia, and son-in-law Jerry Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; children, Mary Rogers, Joseph (Lorrie) Scranton, Paul (Cathy) Scranton, Mark (Jenny) Scranton, and Ric (Kim) Scranton; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Dick was born and raised in Columbus and served in the U.S. Army under General Curtis LeMay in post-WWII Germany as an MP. He had a variety of sales and service positions before setting out on his own. He was the owner of Parts Expeditors Inc, and Union Tire Company. After marrying Rosemary, together they raised six children in the Forest Park subdivision of Columbus. Throughout his adult life, Dick actively supported the Catholic Church as a Lay Minister and Usher, as well as his favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Laurels of Hilliard for the extraordinary care they provided; as well as VITAS hospice for staying by his side during his final days to insure a peaceful transition. Family will receive friends Saturday, February 22 from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington (Just south of I-270). Private family burial will take place at a later date. Visit www.schoedinger.com to share memories or condolences.

Mary, Ric and Mark,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was an amazing man who will forever live in our hearts. You dad used to always tell me how proud of his children he was and that you were his world. Thank you for the opportunity to have him in our lives at the Laurels. We truly loved him.

Richard was a faithful member of our Bible Study Class. He was one of our favorite students, always volunteering to read. He read so eloquently and with such enthusiasm. His love and dedication to the Lord was a bright light within the Laurels of Hilliard. Richard will truly be missed!
